This movie looks as good as previous Pixar efforts.  Unfortunately, It comes on the same weekend as Live Free or Die Hard.  Which one would you choose to see?

Considering Cars was terrible, it's hardly a continuation. Quality wise, anyway.

Hmm...why not both :|

Though somehow I think an animated movie with an original storyline will do better than a resurrection of the Die Hard movie (none of which were really that good anyway). Beating a dead horse would be an understatement.

I watched the 9 minute preview of Ratatouille and was not impressed with the story much. The animation looks fantastic, but we'll see about the story.

Cars wasn't that great of a story either.

My favs from Pixar are Monsters Inc and The Incredibles.

Another Die Hard movie? No thank you, I'll watch it when it's on TV... maybe. I'd go see something new and original from Pixar anytime.

I never thought I would say having seen Die Hard 1 more times than i would like to admint...but I'd rather see Ratatouille.  Die Hard 4 is a 12/PG-13 I think, in which case I refuse to see it.

I see Pixar beating out Die Hard. Why? Cause it's a kids movie and most kids movies do well at the box office. Especially since this is a Pixar film and they have a good reputation when it comes to kid movies.

Agreed.  Cars was a big swing and a miss.  I'm hoping Ratatouille will make a strong comeback for Pixar.

What do you mean?  In recent years animation studios are in a rut - all they can seem to churn out are talking animals.  Over the Hedge, Ice Age, the stupid Penguin movies (I think there are three or four now?), Madagascar, Shark Tale, Flushed Away, The Ant Bully, Chicken Run, The Barnyard, Open Season etc, etc, etc.

Pixar seems to be the only animation studio that has even tried something new and exciting.  I didn't like Cars, but The Incredibles was one of the best movies of 2004.  Period.

AGREED! I haven't liked anything they've done since Toy Story either, and I can't stand that all animation has to be computer animation now. This is why we get stuck watching frickin' Yu-Gi-Oh! (whatever the hell that is). I was eating in this pizza buffet place (if y'all have a Cici's Pizza near you, you might want to check that out), and they had Nickelodeon playing and it was all anime. And all the kid's TV has valuable lessons and whatnot.

When I was a kid, we watched Tom and Jerry re-runs... and you know what the lesson was? If someone's bugging the hell out of you, smack them in the face with a hammer. I don't get so many problems anymore. I went to school to get education... I watched TV to get entertainment.

Ice Age, Over the Hedge, Madagascar, and Open Season were all pretty good for kids movies...

But they were all made from the same archetype - A wacky band of cute animals get together and hillarity ensues.

I realize they're designed for a younger audience, but that's part of the problem.  Animation continues to struggle as a legitimate medium because (out side of most Japanese studios) animated movies are always geared towards children.  It's hard to take the medium seriously when all the examples are juvenile on purpose?

Incredibles was an animated movie, but it was as enjoyable for adults as it was for children, and it didn't pull punches, or use cheap gags to pander to an easy target.
