a good film despite its many inaccuracies not least painting William Wallace as a hero which anyone who has a grasp of history will tell you he was not .

[QUOTE="snakes_codec"]You think he was a bad person? He's one of the most reknown fighters in Britain's history.a good film despite its many inaccuracies not least painting William Wallace as a hero which anyone who has a grasp of history will tell you he was not .
-Unreal-
except in reality Wallace was no fighter he was a Noble whose family was filthy rich nothing like the poor mudd hut dweller the Movie portrayed him as in fact in Robert The Bruce was the real hero not Wallace i mean heck Wallace was barley Scottish he was a Norman Noble and he wasn't from the highlands either he was from the Lower lands plus he was never married like the film suggests if i were the Ghost of Robert the Bruce id be really pissed right now at how i was portrayed as a side show while some Rich Noble who never done half the stuff shown in the movie get conveniently turned into a hero .

It is innacurate, but it's only a movie.the 'English' lords and Kings were actually Norman-English and would have spoken French, the 'Scottish' would not have worn kilts or looked like tribal mythical highlanders. There were terrible people on both sides, the Scottish weren't saints either, Scotland terrorised the north of England for hundreds of years, theres an old legend that it's still legal to kill a Scotsman in the city of York with a Longbow:P

this also as you noted the higher ups spoke French but the average Englishman of the time would have spoken the old Anglo Saxon language which widely viewed as the true language of the English before it merged with othe languages to become the language we speak today you listen to it on Youtube its sounds very close to German in fact it is said that the Saxons came to England from what is now Northern Germany.I was sad that the English were portrayed so poorly. have no idea what you're talking about... you're being far too politically correct.
not all the English were portrayed as evil in that movie- only Longshanks and a few of his troops were actually what you could call "evil"... aka- Longshanks, the officer who tried to rape Murron, and officer who took the newlywed woman for his own. the rest of the English troops were just under Longshanks command and had no good/bad character... they were just serving in the English army.
if anything, you could argue that the Scottish nobles were portrayed moreso as evil- because they sold out Wallace while pretending to be on his side... after which he tracked down and killed... so how was it racist?
source: I own this movie and have seen it several times.
the whole point of the movie was to show man's struggle for freedom and how valiant his efforts were...
