right right...ill have to review on sparknotes lolI've never read it, but it got an Iron Maiden album named after it so it's obviously the greatest book of all time.
10/10. I urged anyone who doesn't really like it or likes 1984 (which I still love) more to discuss the themes of this book with a friend. You will find that society is gravitating towards this sort of world. 1984 might be more interesting because its "evil" is the upper class (or some form of it) but brave new world is a better representation, in my view, of what unethical application of science can result in: a world restricted by excessive and free sex, drugs, mindlessness, without any progression or "truth/beauty" as the book calls it. No sin/"wrong doing"=no consequences for ones destructive or worthless actions. Thats why one of my favorite quotes of all times is: "But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin." Brave New World is truly a vision of the future.
Bernard should have been the main character and not John/10.PannicAtack^ Clearly you do not understand the book. 2/10 I was pulling hair trying to read that ****, never have I despised a novel so. Oh and one more thing I find the theme to be blatantly wrong and I would give up anything to live in such a society lol.
Bernard was a much more interesting character. Sure, John has all the quotes and speeches, but I was more interested in Bernard. He was an insider who was different from the others, I got the feeling he knew something wasn't right about the world he lived in, and I wanted to see him make that discovery.
Also didn't help that the first half of the book focused on him, and then just let him go by the wayside. I felt cheated.
I agree with you on that, I also did not care for John, nor anyone in it, and the montage and the skipping of plot lines was what really killed the book for me. After that there was no getting into it again, especially since I so avidly disagreed with Huxley. Also didn't help that the first half of the book focused on him, and then just let him go by the wayside. I felt cheated.

I give it a 9/10 for quality. It was one of the texts we had to analyse for English in my final year of school, so I still know a lot from it.
We had to compare it to the Blade Runner film as a look at how different mediums convey the came message. We spent about a month on each text
[QUOTE="lakersfan576"]The themeBrozekialSo...did you disagree or did you just dislike it? How are you viewing the theme, first off? You may just be misinterpreting it. I think he's saying that he'd like to live in the society portrayed in the book. Nooooooot me.

The theme I got was "You know, you're disgusted by these people because you hate how they're conditioned, yet the fact that you're disgusted is because you're conditioned, too."
