Seriously? :\ I think its okay but I really do not at all see what the fuss is over this show. Wildly implausible characters and situations and dialogue that goes past purple prose and well into ultraviolet...

If you asked me about a year or so ago when i was really into the show then I would have said it was 5/5 perfect and amazing, but after revisiting past seasons and this current season I have come to realize that it has a lot of flaws including the writing, dialogue, acting and supporting characters. It still has that awesome factor with Dexter Morgan and the shows premise and Michael C Hall is fantastic, but other than that I'd give it about a 4/5 when it is good and a 3/5 the rest of the time. Still better than most shows on television.
Just because I rate it 4/5 doesn't mean I don't think it is completely amazing. But rating it 5/5 in your eyes is the best ever which I don't think it is. I think everybody by know which show I think is the greatest of all time
3.4/5.
Wasn't as great as everyone proclaimed it to be. I only watch the first season but I'm really not interested in seeing the rest.
Dexter's pretty good. The one thing they do well is they know how to end an episode. Making it almost impossible to wait for the next one.
1st season was good. 2nd season was better. I really hated the 3rd season's main story arc.
One of the better shows on TV now. Its got nothing on a show like The Wire, but its interesting and entertaining. Probally my fav show on right now.
Great, 4.5, I'm as big of a fan as anyone, but will have to see how it ends for a 5.btaylor2404This. I can't wait for the remaining two episodes.
The poll is pretty loaded, meaning if you don't like the show, it insinuates that you aren't smart.get-ka12
well, if you don't like the show you don't have a good sense of quality shows
IT doesn't mean you aren't smart however.
I rated it 5 stars, in my 40's now and through the years I have never seen a drama this good (and over a 4 year period uniformly excellent for the most part).
HBO's Oz comes close.
Sure, because I just have to point my TVQualitotmeter at the TV to- oh wait, no, it's entirely a matter of opinion. Put another way, de gustibus non est disputandumwell, if you don't like the show you don't have a good sense of quality shows

Have you seen The Wire?
Yes, but you know what, I must confess I may not have given it enough of a chance. I'll start watching that again at some point.
Interesting thing I noticed with Dexter show, there are 3 characters from the great HBO show Oz that I've recognized thus far, 2 of them are regulars, the other one was in only 1 episode of Dexter, but was a major part of Oz.

I've had different favorite shows over the years but probably the most enduring favorites for me are the first season of Twin Peaks and the first 4 seasons of The West Wing. And I'm not criticizing folks who like Dexter; as I said, I watch it, but I completely do not understand the level of praise it receives. But hey, I don't need to understand it :)well, if you don't like the show you don't have a good sense of quality shows

I should be getting the complete series of Twin Peaks for Christmas. I am excited (I'm even more excited now because I saw Mulholland Drive for the first time last night).

Ok, I'd give you that Twin Peaks was a decent show (I taped every episode on my VCR back in the day.....now I need to find those tapes).
But its hard for me to imagine why anyone doesn't think Dexter deserves the praise it gets, its rock solid in every aspect. Its the Metroid Prime of TV series, a Masterpiece.

Okay, now, I defend the show a lot, but this is something I can't stick up for. Solid in every aspect, seriously?
I'd rate it five, but Fringe takes best show for me.
Dexter is one of my favorite shows. I don't understand the article on TV.com about it being boring this season. I thought that whole scene in Hungry Man, at Trinity's house was amazing. Dexter finally exploded! When he dove on Trinity... awesome. That ending, too... boy, didn't see that coming.
I'm quite looking forward to seeing next season, too. Hopefully it'll last for many more years, and we'll see many more of Deb's failed relationships.
(also, what was with "I'm too busy watching Friends"?)

I agree with this. Some of the characters are pretty bad.

Other than Rita, I don't see who.
Solid concept, acting, writing etc., so where do you guys think it falters?
I stand by my statements.

Doakes was terrible, as LaGuerta and Quinn are, IMO (writing and performance-wise). Also, I consider dialogue like "My devil danced with his demon and the fiddler's tune is far from over" to be howlingly, laughably bad. Also, the whole premise of someone training their child to be a "good and responsible serial killer" is pretty hard for me to credit. Edit: I watch it the same way I watch other shows that I consider campy, like 24 or Smallville.Seasons 1 and 4 (so far) for me are clearly 5/5 material. Season 4 is the first time in a while that I've felt the same exhiliration of new twists since season 1.
Season 2 is a 4/5 for me. Season 3 is a 3/5.

This but I'm behind in season 4, my roomie is all caught up but I'm lacking but she tells me its great so I'm kinda excited to see what happens.
But Season 1>4>2>3 so far. But 2 and 4 are pretty close but 3 is easily the worst but still good.

You don't roll your eyes whenever the Batista/Laguerta relationship is on screen?[QUOTE="AFBrat77"][QUOTE="JML897"]

You don't roll your eyes whenever the Batista/Laguerta relationship is on screen?Batista is my fav character on the show after Dexter, excellent actor both here and as leader of the latino gang in Oz :)
The gal that plays LaGuerto was a nurse in Oz, she's an excellent actress as well. Oz is as good as it gets when it came to acting.
Sure, the relationship can be a low point in the show, but it isn't on much and well, lets see where it goes, it may be building on things for the future of the show.
Jennifer Carpenter as potty-mouthed Deb is awesome, and the guy who plays Masuka (sp?) is hilarious. We know Quinn and Dexter are headed for some sort of run-in.
John Lithgow as Trinity is positively brilliant.
I think the characters are great, Julie Benz as Rita can be clingy and annoying, but heh I'm warming up to her a little.
