It's the parents fault.

They should take better care of a baby. Like putting her in a crib.

Wow. There was a guy from another website forum who kept an exotic giant centipede. He said that they had to get rid of itafter it broke out at night, crawled into their babies crib, and chewed off 2 of the babies fingers completely off.Until they heard him crying.

hmm.. this is something that's always concerned me about human thinking...

why do we get so angry at other animals for trying to survive? I understand we shouldn't let them feed off of us.. but we shouldnt run out and kill 2 billion rats just because one deceided to eat a babies toes..

There are many animal cullings around the world simply because we're afraid of them.. and all that animal did was do what was in its nature.. I guess it's human nature to destroy anything that may harm us, even if they only effect us on a tiny scale.

Kind of ridiculous if they get charged for that. I doubt they just watched the rat eating away. What's next? Suing parents because their child fell on the playground and broke a bone?

wat Did they do something to the rat I didn't read? All I read was that the parents were getting charged with negligence or some such.

With the exception of a couple posts, I don't see anywhere that said they were going after the rats. It's the parents who are in custody from what I understand.

Wha?

OK, here's the scenario that plays out

If your baby has it's body parts gnawed off by rats

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG

Do not pass go, do not collect 100 dollars, you lose the baby and you go to baby gnawing jail

You aren't in constant 24/7 contact with your baby unless you want the child to have mental problems. It depends on when it happened and why. If it was a pet rat, or if the baby was left at home alone, sure charge them. If the rat snuck in during the night, no parent could prevent that.

i've heard of stories of rats climbing up on the crib and doing similar. it's the parents' fault for not looking in on the baby when it was crying.

I'm sure that the child was crying during the incident. the parents should have looked to see what was the problem.

You can't be serious. Have you even raised a baby before?

I have on more than one occasion. In fact, we have had 15 children come through our home (some babies, some older).

1. The article said rats, as in more than one.

2. If the rats were pets (I doubt it but let's say they were as you suggested), then how did the rats get that close to the baby? The parents did not take proper safety precautions then.

3. You should know everything that is happening with your baby 24/7 (even when your sleeping). We had devices placed in our baby's room and speakers in our room. I guarantee you, if the baby as much as breathed, we heard him/her. Any thing moving in the room, we knew about it. As a parent, you better know what's happening 24/7 with your baby. That is the job of the parent.

4. To let rats chew off your baby's toes is inexcusable.

5. The baby is not going to have mental problems because you did your job as a parent. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Yeah, it's not the animals fault. They are primitive and act on instinct. The parents should have taken better care of their daughter.

If you're walking around in the woods, and a bear mauls you after you piss it off, should people blame the bear? No, they will, but they shouldn't. It was your own stupidity that led to the attack. The same goes for the parents, it was their neglect that led to this.

I actually started laughing when I read your posts. Please never procreate. The more contact with a baby and young child you have, the more intelligent they grow up to be, because, as they say "the first six years are critical" for all their development and learning. When a child is SCREAMING in pain, there is something wrong. Any intelligent human would go to the baby and see what the problem is. Yes, there's self soothing, but that's five minutes maybe. If the kid screams for hours because its having its toes chewed off, you should probably go look. You can't prevent a rat getting into your house, but you can go see your infant when they're screaming bloody murder.

The job of the parent is to raise the child, knowing everything about it 24/7 does not correlate with raising the child. I agree letting rats chew off your baby's toes or even be around a child is inexcusable. The article doesn't elaborate on how they found out about the rats, if the parents did indeed allow it to happen, if the baby screamed or anything. I'm just suggesting based on the limited information the article had, the parents shouldn't be crucified.

One can assume the baby screamed as it was being nommed upon. The only way it wouldn't is if it were knocked out due to injury, or drugged.

Actually yes, it does. It's a helpless little baby, you are the only thing it has to get it all the things it needs. being a parent is a 24/7 job. you don't just switch the kid off when you're busy doing other things.

Please, do find some rodents with sharp teeth and let them have a go at your toes. Let's see if you stay anywhere near quiet when they're crunching through YOUR feet.

[QUOTE="stepnkev"]

[QUOTE="guynamedbilly"] The job of the parent is to raise the child, knowing everything about it 24/7 does not correlate with raising the child.

Knowing what's happening with your child 24/7 IS part of raising your child.:|

How can you say the parents should not be blamed? Rats chewed off the baby's toes!! How can this not be the parents fault?

Read my post again. And I disagree with the 24/7 helicopter parent.

I know exactly what you said. Now read my post again. You can disagree all you want to.
