Reality, what is it?

Why is anything here? Why am I posting this right now?

Why is there an earth under our feet?

What is reality?

Isn't it all strange to anyone else? Or am I tripping?

I mean seriously, what is the point of anything at all? Why does anything exist?

Billions of stars in galaxies, and billions of galaxies out there....and maybe even, billions of....UNIVERSES out there...

It boggles my mind.

Someone explain to me what it all means...PLEASE.

I curse myself for everyday that I spent on gamefaqs.

I used to frequent "gamefaqs"...mostly the social message boards that they have like "Curent Events" or "LUE".

In the 3 or 4 years that I went to those boards, never had I had such cool or insightful replies to my topics as I have had here.

Thank you for opening my eyes, I am never going back to gamefaqs ever agian. I hate that ****ing place now...

I am a very curious person, and I ask weird philosohical questions as I have in this topic....and USUALLY, in gamefaqs, I was riddiculed for it, automatically labled "crazy" for my thoughts, and dismissed compeltly for my way of thinking.

But look at this, I posted this topic, and the very first replies I got, were right on the money.

One idea is that this is not reality. We could merely be seeing things since we are in a kind of suspended animation, or our brains are, and we are shown created images. Reality is only shown once we awaken from our sleep and this "reality". You might be asking how this works.

Well, I cant tell what someone else is thinking, I can only trust them and assume, I cannot go into someones mind and read their thoughts. I can only be sure of what I am thinking. Because of this, I dont know if they are real or they are programs being made to say this stuff. Everyone on GS and in the supposed world could be none other than programs similar to the ones used for AI in games. The only thing I can be sure of is the things I think, feel, see, etc, but even then those can be fake and just programmed in. Cogito, ergo sum. I think therefore I am. We cannot be sure of our existance, the only thing we can be sure of is that we dont know if we do or dont.

Another thing is that I know of nothing that happened before my birth. All I can do is believe history books and people who had lived in the time before me, but it could all be made up unless I create a time machine and travel back in time to see if what they say happened really did, but since I dont have that technology, I can only believe what I have been told my so called history books and people before me, if they even exist in the first place.

Dude thats crazy. Because I think the same way as you. Sometimes I feel as though the people around me, are not real. As in they are programmed to do, say and think. The fact that you said that, makes me feel a lot better since I know now that other people think about this in the same way as I do. It makes me feel less "crazy" about this reality we live in, and really brings me back down to what is "real".

No problem :) I myself have been tempted to do certain 'acts' just to see what happens, but I fear the consequences of what might happen. The only way to truely know is when you die. The movie Vanilla Sky is an excellent example of the "brains in a vat' theory, and a great movie to boot. If your interested in that stuff I recommend that movie because it deals with the same stuff.

Reality is what you see or preceive to be real.

At least thats my understanding.

Similar to the matrix theory, it is possible that what we perceive is a virtual reality world that people in the future use as a sort of holiday or game and that most of use are just very advanced AI, so advanced that we are unaware of our inorganic state

You contradicted yourself. We can be sure that we exist. It is this fact from which we start and begin to assert other things that we can be said to know in reality.

When you virtualize a server on a computer, it can't tell the difference between a real server and virtual server. All commands and processes are interpreted in the same way by the computer.

Reality seems real to us just like a virtualized server seems real to a computer.
