I've heard it said that it's 30% working out, 5% genes, and 65% what you eat. 3 days a week should be fine if you're eating right, and the exercises are intense enough to shock your body into adapting (growing muscles).

I wouldn't say it is hard, it just takes commitment.

Yes, you can't work out for 3 days a week and be in really good shape. Well, you could I guess, but it'd be a REALLY hard and take a LOT of time. And it wouldn't be just lifting a few weights, you wiould have to run/bike/lift/eat right/sleep right. But tat's just based on my what my standards of REALLY good shape are. I am in REALLY good shape.

Why do you want to be in REALLY good shape?

It isn't too hard as long as you have a good diet and the right training schedule also you need dedication it doesn't happen overnight it will take months depending on your starting physique.

. feel good about my self

. be even more attractive to my girlfriend

. healthier

. would be stronger in many ways

Well then, you need to eat a lot more healthier. No more fast food or anything. Hit the gym and run/bike. If you run a few miles, double it on a bike. And push yourself, no pain no gain. There's not much to it, it's a lot easier said than done. You need to be devoted and stick with it. Also, you don't necissarily need to work with weights; you can just do exercises such as push-up, sit-ups, etc. if you don't want to buy a gym membership. But if you want to look ripped, you'll need weights.

What he said. A lot of it is in your genetic make up. I barely work out but my lower body, midsection, and back are in good shape, however my arms are fairly weak. I guess it varies from person to person, but if you really want to get in shape, do a full body work out at a gym every two days, or alternate between upper body and lower body exercises everyday taking a day off every week if your body is in pain.

I'd imagine it takes a ton of work. You're going to have to drastically alter your diet and workout at least three times a week, but you have to workout effectively. I personally have no interest in getting "buff," despite the username. The extra weight, even muscle, does nothing for my lifestyle. I'd prefer just to be in shape.

Find a good lifting program, just like 4 days a week give or take a day. Do not lift everyday, and dont work the same muscles within about 3 days of eachother. like this:

1:chest/shoulders/triceps

2:back/biceps

3:legs

and add an abb workout about 2 times a week. Thats how i do mine. BTW whey protein helps pretty good too. Take a serving with milk preferably right after you work out. And if your skinny now, take another serving before you go to bed. And add some more calories to your diet, drink a glass of milk a few times a day so you get some extra protein and all the other good stuff in milk.

You dont have to do ur workouts like that, its just a suggestion. There are several plans out there.

It takes atleast a year before you see any major changes, I use to weight 145 and was paper thin being 5'11, it took me a good year and a half I added 35 pounds of muscle, now I am 180, and working out 3 a week is enough if your workouts are really intensive, also dont bench press often, I use to bench every 2 days and would never get stronger because I wasnt resting my body properly, give your body rest, oh and buy protein from GNC or something it helps a bunch, start eating like crazy, and dont expect results, in the first year you will get the most results and make it a habit, dont be one of those people that go a month and doesnt see a change and quit, make it your life.

Thats right, but you will feel more physically fit long before a year. And certain muscles will probably get big faster than that.

The name was always a joke. I've lifted a solid amount in my life but never for mass. I was just saying that you should expect progress to be slow.

Yep. This is the best way to do it. It worked for me.

Working only certain muscles on certain days, gives the other muscles time to heal, which is actually where all your size/tone/strength/endurance will come from. The REST period. It's crucial.

The most important thing is dedication.

Never miss a day an tell yourself "O, I'll just workout harder tomorrow".

That guy is not very big, he just has little fat. Run and cut down on the amount of fat you eat each day.

All you really need to get his chest is a bench and some dumbells for your arms; no gym needed.

pretty good shape. Good for football and basketball. just make sure you rest your muscles, if you lift too much you will hit a wall and you wont get stronger as quickly.

not really dude. That would be better than nothing but it doesnt sound like whats right for him. The fat wont matter unless he eats a lot of it, and no cardio is needed. You will build more muscle by not doing cardio a whole lot.
