America is the only country that spells Corea with a "K". It was originally spelled with a "C" until the Japanese forced to change it to a "K" so they could walk first in the Olympics (during the forced oppressive Japanese annexation in the early 1900's). I guess its a pride thing.
Yeah, I have some resentments against the Japanese and so do a lot of people. But, I'm not gonna go there.

"Japan's annexation of Corea didn't become formal until 1910, but for all practical purposes Japan had become the power that regulated Corea's relations with the outside world in 1897 when it defeated China in a war over Japan's ambition to exercise control over Corea. The only other power willing to contest Japan's supremacy in the Corean peninsula was Russia. When it was easily defeated by Japan at Port Arthur in 1905, the annexation of Corea became a fait accompli. Anxious to avoid a costly Pacific conflict, President Wilson ignored the pleas of a delegation of Corean patriots and their American missionary supporters and turned a blind eye to Japan's acts of formal annexation and colonization of Corea. During that period Japan mounted a campaign to push for the "Korea" useage by the American press. Why? For one of Japan's prospective colonies to precede its master in the alphabetical lineup of nations would be unseemly, Japanese imperialists decided."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was Europe that started to spell it Korea instead of Corea due to linguistic study of how the whole name derived from.
Am I the only one who didnt see anything really disturbing? At all?Matt-4542No, you're not alone. In fact, those pics were actually kind of beautiful, in a way.
lolol, Corea. I'm from "Corea" but I think it's actually spelled Korea!Kikouken
No the orginal way is Corea.

Thats because photographers aren't allowed outside the small boundaries of the capital city of Pyongyang which is only a facade of the starvation and famine outside. Oh, and don't forget the Auschwitz-esque concentration camps.
Check out this movie trailer based on the plight of North Corea.

Korea itself uses a C. China in mandarin is also very different from the English name, but I don't think people should really care though, its just a name.

Zhong Guo!:D...though, i dunno how to type the tones (been learning mandarin for 3 weeks now)When romanizing Korean, the "K" sound can only be substituted with a "G". Like "gimchi" instead kimchi. Substituting the k/g with a "c" is incorrect. Just because it sounds the same when spoken doesn't mean it's correct when written. Shad0ki11
Exactly. The sound 'g' can also be pronounced as a 'k' in certain words.
