Xanadu and the Great White are two gems. But on a serious note, see some movies like "The Princess Bride", "Chariots of Fire", "La Vita e Bella", and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Donnie Darko, A Clockwork Orange, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, American Beauty, Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Ikiru, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Godfather 1/2, Moulin Rouge!, The Triplets of Belleville, Pan's Labyrinth, Princess Mononoke, Battle Royale, Grave of the Fireflies, 12 Monkeys, Jacob's Ladder

if you want to see something in theaters I am Legend was pretty good, but apparently it was dissapointing for those who read the book previously

Watch the Bourne Trilogy!!! I absolutely LOVED it.

There are tons of movies to recommend, but as of late, the Bourne movies are the only ones I really enjoyed.

A few off the top of my head:

  • Dawn of the Dead (the original's much better than the remake, though the remake is okay as long as you pretend it's unrelated)
  • Being John Malkovich
  • Adaptation
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • Taxi Driver
  • Crank (good ridiculous fun)
  • The Usual Suspects
  • Robocop (the unrated version if you can find it, otherwise it's not a big deal)
  • Pan's Labyrinth
  • Army of Darkness
  • The Iron Giant
  • Heat
  • Desperado
  • Kingdom of Heaven (the director's cut or nothing)
  • High Fidelity
  • Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
  • Serenity
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Terminator 2

I'll probably think of more after I click submit.

Another great movie is called Once, not a very famous movie but it did come out this year and believe me it is excellent.

Received very good reviews, too.

You should check out the Alien series, if you haven't seem those films. The first two Alien films (Alien & Aliens) are a couple of the greatest films ever created in my opinion.
Other films I really enjoyed and can recommend to you...
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Predator
  • Terminator 2
  • Starship Troopers
  • Hot Fuzz
  • Star Trek: First Contact
  • Gladiator
