RHCP has always annoyed me. They have a few good songs, and theyre good, but I just dont like them.
Idunno I think both bands are just ok
Definitely RHCP for me. I love all their songs. Smashing Pumpkins is ok but I only like 2 of their songs:(

*dies violently*Eh, they're both ok. If I want to take a break from hard stuff, I listen to Coldplay, Lost Ocean, Deas Vail, Snow Patrol or Turn Off the Stars.
You mean the double album that won a grammy for rock album of the year, along with 6 other nominations? Oh well, can't please everyone.Smashing pumpkins, the Chilli Peppers are very hit and miss to me. Their last album was not that good.

Why should I care what awards it gets? I still thought it was way too hit and miss, it had a few good songs but most were not too good.

I was only playing. Of course it all comes down to taste. Honestly, I have been a fan for close to 20 years, but I really did not like the early stuff AT ALL.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="danjammer69"] You mean the double album that won a grammy for rock album of the year, along with 6 other nominations? Actually, I say Pumpkins because they have the song "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" and I freaking love that song.
I precisely feel the same about Billy. To each his own :) RCHP is still amazing, don't get me wrong.RHCP for me. John can serenade me with his guitar.

Smashing Pumpkins.
Talk all you want about how The Smashing Pumpkins have become ass. Look at a lot of their awesome songs.
It is a simple fact that a HELL of a lot of their best songs were 8+ minute long songswith two acts. First act, the pop lyrically inspired part. Brief interlude followed by musical awesomeness.
Drown.
Starla.
Hell, even go as far as Zwan. Look at the song "Jesus I/Mary Star of the Sea". The "Jesus I" partt sounded okay, we got the brief silent interlude, then the song busted out into absolutely CLASSIC Smashing Pumpkins at their best.
Go up to as recently as their album Zeitgeist, which was pretty much agreed by Pumpkins fans to be crap. Their is, however, one shining light on that album. THat being the song United States. Long ass epic song which follows the same basic formula as some of their earlier songs. Catchy first part, brief interlude, then a shift to an absolutely kick-ass end half.
Smashing Pumkins does THAT well. They do that EXTREMELY well. They do that well even when it is NOT the Smashing Pumpkins doing it, and they do it well even when 90% of the rest of the album is total ass.
THAT is the type of song that suits Billy Corgan's songwriting the best. That is, at least during the present day. His short pop songs seem to be kind of boring with Jimmy Chamberlin being the only saving grace. But when it comes to long ass "epic" songs that follow 10 minute long epic song formula, Billy Corgan still "has it", and has put out such awesome songs as lately as whenever it was that they released Zeitgeist.
And yeah, even Machina wasn't that bad. Doesn't sound like "classic" Pumpkins, but I like it.
But yeah... say what you will about Zwan, but Mary Star of the Sea (the song, not necessarily the entire album) was CLASSIC Pumpkins on par with a hell of a lot of their best. Same thing with Zeitgeist. I found most of the album to be disappointing, but "United States" was absolutely awesome.
