So for the past several years reddit has really gone downhill with the overmoderation of comments. What used to be a good platform for debate and discussion has become one which offers often only one sided opinions.

Even something as small as asking for more information about a perspective or talking point is enough for folks to be muted or temporarily banned.

Really wish there was another website with a similar layout/interface as reddit. Butnsadly i haven't been able to find one that comes close.

Some have recommended 4chan or 8 chan but their search tools are much less user friendly imo.

If you're new to Usenet, you'll need a Provider (server) and reader (software).

A decent free provider here: https://www.eternal-september.org/

Decent free reader: https://sabnzbd.org/

If you want anything more, I suggest Forte's Agent software and service: https://www.forteinc.com/agent/

@br0kenrabbit: that definitely doesn't look as user friendly for mobile but I'll check it out.

I found a short video to introduce you to Usenet so you can see if it's something you might be interested in before committing.

I mean, if you want to appeal to the general population, then you need moderation. I don't get along with mods, usually. I butt heads with them a lot. However, even if I do butt heads with them, I do agree that we need them. Even as someone that's been burned by several mods. Though I also think that some power trip too much. Banning people or suspending them, or muting them, simply because the mod lost an argument to them. Or even something as petty as saying something they disagree with. I got banned from a place, simply because I didn't like the mods favorite character, and I would constantly post about how I didn't like that character. And no, I wasn't aware the mod was a mega fan of that character, I was just simply giving my opinion when we'd discuss the episodes. Yet too many posts slandering them, and I got banned. 😒 Still, we need them.

4chan is your best bet. Don't go to 8chan, that place is cursed. 4chan is pretty bad, but they at least have some standards. If I were you, I'd just get used to it. It'll be jarring for a bit, similar to TikTok for me at first, but you'll get used to it.

Reddit has become a woke cesspool even in topic you think are safe from the left agenda like technology, economics they banned you for any little thing. I've been banned for saying trump was going to win in r/politics just for example

Yup, I was on the official Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game subreddit (which is moderated by the developers, no conflict of interest there surely) and was permabanned the other day after responding to a troll who commented on my post being intentionally inflammatory. When I pressed the mods asking why in the messages they claim I've had over 30 comments removed. Never knew that, never had a final warning. Kept pressing them and they just muted me from being able to respond.

If your threshold for "infringements" is allowing up to THIRTY, maybe that means deep down you know your moderation is way too sensitive and way out of control with what you consider an "offense".

I don't post on Reddit, just go there for answers to questions I can't find anywhere else. Which it's rich in.

The one subreddit I used to visit for entertainment is dirge now. Doesn't seem to be anything to do with mods, mind, just a sudden huge influx of low effort dross.

Reddit users? More like child abusers!

I got banned from Reddit and Im glad I did. But it sucks cause I wanted to use the site for just literally anything.

These days I get downvoted from that soyboy site just for saying my opinion

I probably should. It's usually really specific stuff, though, like software troubleshooting options or whatever. Maybe ChatGPT is competent with that but it's nice to know exactly where information's coming from. Plus I kind of enjoy the hunt sometimes. Bit of a masochist like that.

The mistake that a lot of y'all are having is discussing politics on Reddit. Why on earth would you do that? I go to Reddit for in-depth answers, recommendations, and discussions on topics that I am passionate about (within reason). I use it as a forum that actually has a lot of users. No offense to this forum, but it's like the same 20 people. 😅

I'm only banned from one Subreddit, and that's because I trash talked the mod's favorite character on a show. And even then, I didn't even do it on purpose. I don't purposely antagonize people.

moderators over at Gamefaqs are worse than at any website. gamefaqs moderators are psychos putting every new member on ban status or read only status. Its ridiculous

I think it depends on the subreddit youre in. Some are overly senstive, but cater to their group. Others are pretty lenient.

They actually ban people now? Last time I was over there, they let everyone get away with everything.

DIdnt Gamespot forums years ago used to be joined with gamefaqs's forums back then? they both shared the same messageboard connection somehow where Gamespot members were able to get away with different accounts at gamefaqs where the moderators at gamefaqs had no clue about

The flaired only requirement has been there some years I think. If you post early enough in new threads, you can probably get away with it. Doesn't take long before the flaired only is a requirement.

Don't me wrong , i'm pretty liberal and very anti-Trump, but "fatphobia" is bull shit. 99% when someone is obese they choose to be obese.

I work in a VERY obese (like the fattest place on planet earth, obese) government office in the deep south. These ppl eat out like 99% of the time.

Generally speaking, the more moderation there is, the better the experience is, with any social website or app. That said, Reddit is just a bunch of communities with local moderators, it's not really a monolith. If you are at a subreddit you think its too moderated, just go to another one.
