So for the past several years reddit has really gone downhill with the overmoderation of comments. What used to be a good platform for debate and discussion has become one which offers often only one sided opinions.
Even something as small as asking for more information about a perspective or talking point is enough for folks to be muted or temporarily banned.
Really wish there was another website with a similar layout/interface as reddit. Butnsadly i haven't been able to find one that comes close.
Some have recommended 4chan or 8 chan but their search tools are much less user friendly imo.
I mean, if you want to appeal to the general population, then you need moderation. I don't get along with mods, usually. I butt heads with them a lot. However, even if I do butt heads with them, I do agree that we need them. Even as someone that's been burned by several mods. Though I also think that some power trip too much. Banning people or suspending them, or muting them, simply because the mod lost an argument to them. Or even something as petty as saying something they disagree with. I got banned from a place, simply because I didn't like the mods favorite character, and I would constantly post about how I didn't like that character. And no, I wasn't aware the mod was a mega fan of that character, I was just simply giving my opinion when we'd discuss the episodes. Yet too many posts slandering them, and I got banned. 😒 Still, we need them.
4chan is your best bet. Don't go to 8chan, that place is cursed. 4chan is pretty bad, but they at least have some standards. If I were you, I'd just get used to it. It'll be jarring for a bit, similar to TikTok for me at first, but you'll get used to it.
