Religious People of OT, Do You Follow Your Holy Text Literally?

I would like to know if you guys and gals follow the text of these holy books literally or if it's just loose interpretation. I also wonder if you change your lifestyle according to the book as well as part of your belief

Nope. I have my belief and that's pretty much it.

I don't since I don't follow any religious text. With that being said, I find a lot of these "interpretations" hilarious. Basically if you don't like something or it doesn't conform to current cultural norms then "interpret" it away. And there are those who simply do what they want, like "liberal Catholics" which support abortion or gay marriage. Dudes, that is supposed to be the word of "da' God". Follow it.

Basically they are religious a la carte. I pick and choose what I want to follow and discard the rest.

No. I follow my own beliefs and not from anyone else.

Really I just try to be a good person to others. I'm not as religious as I used to be, despite still believing in God. The more I see people using the Bible as an excuse to discriminate, divide, and otherwise be hateful towards others the less I want to be counted among them. There's always room to be good and help each other though, and that is my mantra.

Agreed, Even though my roots are based in Christianity, I've studied and to a certain degree, practiced, Judaism, Islam and buddism ( buddism mainly for martial arts)

The funny thing is that most people think that Christianity, Judiasm and Islam are at odds with each other, but they are not! If you are willing to do the research, you will see that all 3 religions are part of the Abrahamic Covenant. The confusion comes from followers who are too dependent on their spiritual leaders and don't think independently. Spirituality is personal, it's a journey only the individual can make.

And that's the main problem, some religious leaders use the followers dependency to control them! So when people say that religion is at the root of a lot what's wrong in the world, that's not totally accurate. The problem is that the majority of people in these different religions don't think independently and they allow themselves to be controlled by leaders who have their own agendas!

Anyway, let me get on topic! I treat all people with respect and at the core, that's what most religious text ask the individual to do, but the only way you're gonna know that is by studying for yourself and not allowing someone else to interpret it for you.

No, I don't follow the Bible literally.

I follow Christ and his teachings, which is so much more than just the Bible. It's going to Mass, and practicing the sacraments as He intended. And while I'm nowhere near the level I want to be currently (I'm just recently reconnecting with my Catholic faith), I know that with His help I will get there in time.

I will change my lifestyle according his teachings, absolutely. It's what being a Christian really is.

I think if they did, 100%, they wouldn't admit it here since some of those things are illegal in most countries (human sacrifice, slavery, stoning people to death, executing apostates).

That's pretty close to how I feel, I'm not catholic, but I share your philosophy. So many religious leaders use their religious text to control their followers.

The only way a person can know if they have a good teacher or not is by thinking as a individual and taking their spirituality beyond the text.

My religion has no central "holy text" and most that it does have, don't make absolute pronouncements like the Bible or Qur'an. They are more like guidelines to help find the truth for oneself.

My religion holds dominion over all these other false religions of the world.
