[QUOTE="illegalimigrant"][QUOTE="Lindsosaurus"] Well, naivety is cute to me. Should I just hold it in so I don't crack your shell? Am I supposed to protect your ignorance?Lindsosaurus

I think what is more amazing is that you think you know everything and can't accept the beliefs of anyone else. So therefore you have to ridicule rather than argue.

Thank you.

Jeez.... you guys are frail. You know the saying about not being able to take the heat...

[QUOTE="illegalimigrant"]

[QUOTE="BumFluff122"]Sorry that isn't Natural Selection. Natural Selection refers to heritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and reproduce. That probably has more to do with socialism that it does with evolution.

BumFluff122

Can't religious thinking be considered a natural trait or did it just magically appear and somehow against all odds of usefulness survive?

Natural selection refers to the biological processes involved in allowing a creature to survive longer or be more active sexually within their group so they pass on their genes to more individuals. It has nothing to do with ideas, thoughts or religion. That is sociology not evolution.

Yea it does. It has everything to do with it. Unless you believe that there is another force behind our ideas and thoughts. Please don't pick and choose to prove your argument. Unless ideas and thoughts are based on a higher power they are part of evolution. Ok here is an example. If a person mutates to have a tendency to steal and he is more likely to survive because of it then he will pass on that trait to his kids and they will too become thieves. No if someone comes out with a brain mutation that makes him annoy other people then he will most likely die since no one will like him and he will not have the chance to pass the trait to another generation. The other option is that the mind is above evolution and therefore you are saying that there is another force that drives us, but if you believe in that then its counter to your argument. If you believe in evolution then you have to believe that religion has a purpose and that is why it has survived.

[QUOTE="BucketsOfSpunk"] There is a distinct reality that we all share...BucketsOfSpunk

yes, but our perceptions of it may be slightly different and considering that we interact with each other and our environment, our differing perceptions become important to respect and acknowledge.

Perception has nothing to do with undenaible reality.

But you would be ignorant to ignore it. Let me give an example, take a Bee, their perception of the world looks completely different than ours. They see flowers in incredibly bright and vibrant colors while the rest of the world around them is blurry. Same reality, but very different view, keeping this in mind is vital if you really want to understand other people's views

Humans are different from bees. We're not discussing different life forms that operate in a vastly different manner than us. I'm not ignoring the fact that there is a difference in perception. It's just that the differences don't change an undeniable reality! Which, all people, regardless of the degree of their perception, can be in tune with.

I've taken a few college courses on the subject. Regardless you still have it wrong. Natural selection deals with genetic mutations that are carried on due to the mutations being beneficial to the arganism in it's environment. If you've taken courses you should know this.

I thought Protestants are pretty much the only Christians to believe that evolution wasn't real. Heck the Vatican even believes it is real. And they have for the last 3 popes.

Agreed. and it is good to get input from someone who is religious and not close minded because unfortunately I think that is where their argument gets lost on people.

However I think this thread has come to a halt since its just a battle of I'm right you are wrong.BumFluff122

I thought Protestants are pretty much the only Christians to believe that evolution wasn't real. Heck the Vatican even believes it is real. And they have for the last 3 popes.

He's just trying to justify illusions with excuses. It's sad when someone sinks to that level... wasting energy on denials instead of seeking to be enlightened.

Regardless of universal truths, you seem to be more close minded than the religious zealots out there, disguising it under an attempt to appear scientific

I really like that you are open minded rather than just I know everything so you are wrong no matter what. I'm Catholic by the way just to show that religion does not mean closed minded or unscientific. However I think this thread has come to a halt since its just a battle of I'm right you are wrong.

Agreed. and it is good to get input from someone who is religious and not close minded because unfortunately I think that is where their argument gets lost on people.

You don't know if he's open minded or not. You barely talked to him. All this faux respect on the internet is getting stale...

clearly more open minded than you and I can respect who I want to respect and you have no way of knowing if it is real or not. Only I know that...and you are the one arguing against omniscience...

I'm trained well enought to at least know that. It is based on evidence in this thread. Im not saying you arent open minded on other topics. and this can end now if ya want. Nice "debating" with you. seriously, it was a good way to procrastinate and deal with my insomnia.

You're trained? In what? Kissing up to the people who are on your side, and bashing those who challenge you? That's all you did.

1. you don't know how old I am and 2. if you are, it doesnt show, no offense but you are rude for no good reason. I was being sincere when I told you it was nice debating with you despite the fact that you said some pretty degrading things to me and then your response to that was so uncalled for it's not even funny.

Also IllegalImmigrant here is a short list of a number of videos that will help you understand Evolution a bit better because as it stands, from my viewpoint, your understanding is very spotty at best. I mentioned before that it sounded more like Gene Flow than Natural Selection however as there are no genetic mutations involved that's completely rediculous as well. Evolution deals with favourable genetic mutations, belief in religion or disbelief in religion does not.

anyways I'm going ot bed now. Goodnight.

You said you're in college. I graduated from college in 2000. I'm probably older than you. I'm not being rude, I'm being firm. But, everyone always has to take everything the wrong way on the internet... what can I do...

I'm sorry for this but I just could not help it and it seems fitting.

No, there is a clear difference between being firm and rude, you were being rude...there is nothing firm about calling what I say cute in a degrading way and there is also nothing firm about attacking my contributions to this debate. I graduated college in 2007 so yes, I suppose you are older than me, but you should really think about the fact that you come off as an immature 15 year old. Rude not Firm.

What did you just say about perception? C'mon now, you're backpeddling. You perceive me as rude... in reality, I'm being brutally honest. No sugar coating.
