It isn't "Remembrance Day" anymore. It has become "Remembrance Half-Day." I begrudgingly had to work yesterday (have to pay the bills somehow, and 2.5x pay is nice), and the amount of people I saw *shopping* in the mall (literally with carts full of stuff, mostly gifts for Christmas) was sickening. Is it that hard to take a day off from our consumerist lives to remember why we even have the chance to do these things? The people who sacrificed their LIVES to protect our freedom? At least most Americans tend to appreciate their military all year long, and know what they do for them is important. Canadians on the other hand don't seem like they can be bothered most of the time anymore. It makes me ashamed to be Canadian.foxhound_fox
I hope that is not the case. I'm a US citizen so I admit I never heard of Remembrance Day but those who served in the Canadian Military deserve to be respected. A lot of people don't even realize that Canadian soldiers fought in WW2 and actually stormed one of the beaches on D-Day, over time it basically became a US-British Invasion but Juno beach was taken by the Canadian military many of whom sacrificed their lives for the Allied cause. For that alone they deserve to be honored and remembered
BTW Memorial day and Veterans day are now "Sale Days" and our malls are just as crowded.
