Republicans need to stop? Nice attitude there.
Actually, I find this to be one of the things republicans support that makes most sense. Honestly, if you're going to emigrate to a country, the least you can do is learn the language. If everything is offered in ten different languages, why bother learning english?
But, most probably troll anyways.
the guy in the video says "maybe it's the buisness man in me", when america's buisness is mostly foreign! does this candidate know where most of America's money comes from? it's not americaI agree with everything in the video.

America doesn't have a national language, thank god.I don't see what's so crazy about what he's proposing. Unless you don't need to be a citizen to get a drivers license, you should know english well enough to not need a different test.

How much money could that possibly save? They already have the tests translated. Just don't print the tests until someone needs it :|
considering america was founded by killing native indians who didn't speak english, there should be no law stating that english should be the only language. also, the fact that the guy says "it's the buisness man in me", means he doesn't know anything about buisness. most profits are made from foreign enterprises.yellowsaberYou can't be for real on this. How do you think every nation was originally formed?
Though I do believe you should learn english if you plan to live in America, this guy says it in the most trolling way possible. If you made an Ad like that in California you'd be committing political suicide.
Theres a thing called tact. He does not have it.

To pass the citizenship test you generally need a working knowledge of english.
You can't be for real on this. How do you think every nation was originally formed? modern america was founded by killing native indians. then slaves built it, and now rich people take credit for it. that's not how japan was formed btw[QUOTE="yellowsaber"]considering america was founded by killing native indians who didn't speak english, there should be no law stating that english should be the only language. also, the fact that the guy says "it's the buisness man in me", means he doesn't know anything about buisness. most profits are made from foreign enterprises.Pirate700
what buisness man would agree with it? don't you understand that America relies on foreign buisnessnes to survive?Lol, Why? Becuase they put through a law that you don't agree with?

That's De Facto not De Jure. You could argue that it basically amounts to the same thing, which I agree with and aren't personally upset by. However, I believe or nation was founded on a strong sense of independence. Just as we don't mandate religion, we shouldn't mandate language.Because it's the majority of the land....how does one live if they don't understand the common language.:|I don't see any reason why speaking English should be required for becoming a naturalized citizen.

I take it this is about learning English? Actually my thoughts are that if one wants to move to a country they should voluntarily learn the language. That said.....road signs are in English and no one should have a driver's license if they can't read the language. And since children need educated.....English is necessary there as well. I can't see the fuss. Were I to move to Germany....I'd expect I'd need to learn German and not expect the Germans to learn my language....Same with any other country I'd move to which did not speak my language.LJS9502_basicThis^ And for someone moving to a country and not trying to learn its language is just laziness.

Republicans should stop fighting for their values? Vandalvideotheir values = free market there is no law stating that every market has to speak english. that's not a republican value, maybe a neo-con one though

1. English is not the offical language of the United States.
2. It's immigrate, not emigrate. When you immigrate you enter, when you emigrate you leave.

You're speaking from an ideological perspective, I'm speaking from a practical one. We run into enough issues with misunderstandings arising from different dialects of english alone.

I didn't find it untactful at all. He didn't insult anybody. He wasn't disparaging. He had a point to make, and he made it in a very direct way. What about the video did you find offensive?

Given that English is currently the top form of communication among businessmen, and that most people in other countries learn English, I doubt that will happen.[QUOTE="topgunmv"][QUOTE="majoras_wrath"] That's De Facto not De Jure. Actually, most other countires have a dominant language and a second, extremely prominent language that people in that country would do well to learn. In the not to distant future we'll have about as many English speakers as Spanish speakers, if anything I think American citizens should start learning Spanish. Besides, most second generation and beyond citizens speak English, it's really only the ones who actually immigrate here that continue to speak their native tongue for the most part. And as to the driving thing, you don't need to read for the most part, 99.9% of the signs you can teach people to recognize by shape and/or location. Traffic signs are designed with the purpose of being simple to recognize and understand. At any rate, everyone needs to drive, most immigrants learn English whether it's mandated or not out of necessity, and having Spanish tests for either the extremely small proportion of immigrants who don't learn English or for those who just came to the country recently and are still in the process of learning the language shouldn't really be a problem.
