Our current calendar is the Gregorian Calendar...it's been in use since 2-24-1582.
It replaced the Julian Calendar, as that one had accumulated an error of 10 days when the decree was made to replace it.
The Julian assumed the time between vernal equinoxes was 365.25 days, when in fact it's 11 minutes less.
We are all aware of the B.C./A.D. division of years.
Modern historians have verified that King Herod of Judea (responsible for Bethlehem massacre) died in 4 B.C., thus our calendar is behind by a minimum of four years...
2010 + 4 = 2014, 2014 > 2012.
2012 passed by two years ago, and without a catastrophic incident.:P
