Ok, so I went to KROQs Almost Acoustic Christmas lastnight, had seats center stage in the 10th row, and everything was fine until Alice in Chains came on. They were soooo damn loud. I couldn't believe it. It was my first concert and I didn't know how loud it could get in there. Anyway, after it was over, my ears were ringing, and they still are today (the morning after). It's only been about 12 hours since the concert ended, but my question is this: Has anyone here experienced this? Will it go away?

ringing in the ears is typical after being in a loud environment. it will go away...unless you go deaf. then youre screwed.

Haha, after a concert that included both Lamb of God and Metallica, I thought I felt my ears bleeding.

It'll go away. It's basically just some of the cell receptors in your ears dying.

Yes, it will go away. For you it will be longer considering it is your first concert.

Unfortunately the only way to fix it is to put on some heavy duty headphones and blare more heavy metal music into your ears.

My ears feel like theyre under water, but I can hear fine. It's just the damn ringing. It's sooo annoying!

Yeah, that's what I read. I hope it goes away soon. I'm trying to study for finals and it's really distracting.

My friend was right next to me, and he's been to a few concerts and its not lasting as long for him. I think it's already subsided. Thanks for your replies. I feel a bit better now. I've learned my lesson and I will definitely take some earplugs next time.

You have tinnitus. Probably not, but you should wear earplugs when going to a concert unless you do want to get tinnitus.

I've never had it, and i've been to a few festivals and very loud nightclubs, which they are suppose to be of course, since if your in the music area then the music is suppose to conjure the scene.

Yeh whenever I go to gigs or clubs I get the ringing in my ears. With clubs it usually goes by the next day but on some gigs it's taken days to go. Don't worry about it :)

Well me being a major concert veteran, Im assuming that it was one of you're first concert experiences? Either way. the ringing in the ear will go away, but its actually not a good thing. That sharp sound you hear is actually a pitch that you are losing. Thats why you see people such as myself who go to a lot of concerts wear ear plugs. If I didn't, i would easily be going deaf by now.:P

The Gibson isn't that big or that small, it's just a nice size. It was just too loud for me though.

Even if you don't have a real pair of earplugs you can improvise by rolling up peices of napkin into balls and putting it in your ear. Makeshift earplugs may not be as good as the real thing but definitely better than going without any at all.

All the Rock/Metal concerts I've went through over the years, my ears always ring. It's normal, and eventually it'll go away. The very last major concert I went to was AC/DC performing in NYC last year, I swear my ears were going to bleed after their last 3 songs and I was close, but not that close to the stage.

From then on, I started wearing earplugs at smaller venues here in NYC.

I remember being front and center at a Velvet Revolver concert and the ringing lasted for nearly a week. At any rate, it shouldn't last for more than a few days. If it does, see a doctor

I remember going to a concert once, my ears hurt after the experience, never again. I had to YELL to my friend who was sitting right next to me, that's just ridiculous. Why go to a concert only to have your ears destroyed, not worth it in my opinion.

I went to a Judas Priest concert last summer, my ears didn't ring, but I couldn't hear as well for a couple of hours afterward, is that generally the same thing?

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. The ringing is still there, though not as bad, but now my ears just hurt, as if they're sore or something. If it lasts till Wednesday, I will definitely go see my doctor. Thanks again.

When your ears ring, it indicates you have done permanent damage to them. Over time, accumulation of this damage will lead to hearing loss - possibly severe. Sounds like you're going to use ear protection from now on, and suffice it to say that's a wise move. You'd be surprised how little sustained noise our ears can take without accumulating damage.

That's the sound of your ears drums being damaged. Sometimes it can stay forever, many rockers have this problem. Most of the time it will go away though. You'll have to live with it if it doesn't. Forgot the clinical name for it.

That nothing, at the Knob Creek machine gun shoot ear plugs don't prevent the ringing. They just lower the duration (sometimes?).

Happened to me for 3 days after a Dragonforce concert back in '06. Price to pay for being 2m from the stage in a small venue. Totally worth it.

This is why I refuse to go to indoor clubs now. This is also why I refuse to shoot guns without hearing protection.
