I just found out he died. Don't know if anyone here cares, but he was a major part of my old Yankee Stadium memories. We used to have a kid in the neighborhood who could do a spot on impression of him announce us when we played wiffle ball.

Which reminds me, it is time to write an early review of "Passion Play" and give it 5/5 stars while remarking on Megan Fox's "Hepburn" qualities.
He was the announcer for the Yankees games. He would say "Now batting for the Yankees number 2 Derek Jeter... number 2" His voice and his presentation always felt sort of poetic and he's one of the ebst announcers in the history of sports. He was just different he took a completely different stance on how games should be announced and he will be missed.

He wasn't a commentator. He didn't do play-by-play. Did he ever do anything besides read a player's name, position, and number over the PA system?

Not to my knowledge, but does it matter? He was the best at what he did.

For over 50 years. That's the crazy part. He announced Joe Dimaggio's name when he batted for goodness sake![QUOTE="bigblunt537"][QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"]

For goodness' sake, he looks fantastic for his age! If you have the good fortune to reach 100, you should hope to look as good.
I'll never make it past 20 :(He was actually 99 years old. I saw this last night and it was pretty saddening, but he was 99 so I guess it was just his time. He will be greatly missed
