Role-playing (not the dirty kind)

Do you roleplay? Not RPG video gaming, but adopting a character and creating a story with other people. If so, what medium? LARP, forum, online chat, through an MMORPG, pen & paper? What are your pet peeves? How do you like to play?

I'm very free-form and don't like rules or numbers in my RPs. I think having a referee is good, to make sure people aren't completely out of line, but I don't like the idea of a DM having more creative control than anyone else. I haven't RPed in more than 5 years, but I used to really like it. I mostly did forum RPing, since it let me write out longer and more thoughtful messages as opposed to just spewing words in order to get my ideas out, which ended up happening in real-time RPs. I got fed up with having a lot of morons jump in and ruin all the good RPs I had going with people by saying "Vegeta is so strong!!! he comes and hits u all!!! u died and vetega says hahaha u r lusers" (which gets ignored, but after a few of those, it's just really annoying). I guess this is why you have rules. :P I kind of think forums are just good for meeting people with a similar RP style and interest, and then you can go off with those people and have your own invite-only RP forum. Incidentally, I've lost most of my RP friends over the years, so if anyone knows a good site for RP, let me know. :)

well actually, i been thinking on something new to do with my friends, so i bought up the idea to start playing Dungeon and Dragons. Now i heard that a small group of people who plays it want to have games at the local toy shop Land Of Make Believe. So i am thinking in the near future i will definitely start doing it.

All role playing is the dirty kind.

I play D&D with friends every once in a while, but we don't really take the whole RP thing serious. We just play the game and crack jokes.

I've played some D&D with friends on occasion. My girlfriend also enjoys it.

I dabbled in it when I was in early middle school, it was actually quite a bit of fun...assuming you're referring to the thing where someone sets up a scenario and then one person posts, then the next person adds onto that and we keep on progressing and developing until it's over. I haven't done anything like it in a while though, I was sort of thinking about getting back into it a year or so ago but it never happened :P.

haha, oddly enough, they have LARP at my local library every Wednesday. :P
