Roll Call: Black Friday Edition

Ah, November...That special time of year where most thoughts turn to Thanksgiving--good food, spending time with families...

And people losing their goddamn minds by lining up outside a closed store at 3 pm the day before, fist-fighting with other shoppers when the doors open at 4 am, stomping on overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated employees, all in an effort to save 10% on an off-brand TV--which the store only has five in stock total to sell to a crowd of thousands.

Good times...good times.

You hear the stories every year. And it's only going to get more interesting this year with the releases of the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One consoles. I'm almost tempted to keep a running tab on news stories which feature people getting mugged for them as they walk out the store. With my home located literally across the street from the local mall, I get to see and hear the unruly crowds every year.

How about you, people? Got any Black Friday horror stories to share?

At least you guys get discounts on everything. No such luck here :(

But you gotta ask yourself--between the crowds, rude people, fight over parking, long lines, shortage of items on sale...is it really worth it? I'd rather just pay full price than deal with all of that nonsense. Better yet, just order stuff online.

Or just be on CAG all the time. That way I found out last year that you could beat the Walmart crowd by simply going in during the afternoon because they already slashed their prices

Depends on the sites, but a lot of the major ones like Amazon do. Money is a little tight this year, so my shopping is going to be extremely limited.

How many people die each year in America by getting trampled while outside stores during Black Fridays? :O

@2ndwonder: I assume that would be chatting on the web and playing games.

There are a few stories where you hear someone actually getting killed--there was an incident a few years back where a Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death, but more often than anything you hear reports of people being injured or robbed. And with the new game consoles releasing this month, I imagine they'll be no shortage of incidents.

Yeah pretty much :) If I were to get something, I'd try to find a nice deal online. I could easily handle myself when going out to check out the prices and things, just don't see the point though. Some people do crazy things and put others at risk for these types of things.

I like the term "competitive shopping". :P

Amusing term. It almost sounds like you can place bets on which shoppers will go home with what items, doesn't it?

Maybe they'll make a show or sth out of it. If Teen Mom came to existence, anything can as well lol.

@2ndwonder: I have actually not gone shopping the morning of any Black Friday. I might be working that day, so I might be able to observe the behavior of people in that setting. Hopefully, that is all I do.

Things can be found more easily online too. I couldn't see myself understanding what it is about Black Friday that makes people go so crazy.

I did today a test in which i got 74. I did the same test exactly (same questions with the same order!) 5 months ago and got 79. Wow either i am stupid or i don't know...lol

omg only 33 posts in RC ? before it was like 330 posts within few hrs, 3300 posts within a month, OT seems really dead now :(

When you got 79 five months ago, did you have a chance to inspect your answers and find out about your mistakes? If not, then it's possible that you did the same mistakes along with a few other random ones.

I cant get over how dead OT has become since the redesign. A quick look at the top 10 topics and most of them haven't had a reply for an hour. Absolutely crazy.

Gamespot really done doofed. It's gone from one of the better communities on the internet to an absolute ghost town.

I did had time to inspect my answers back then. I had a problem though time time because there was a question i was digging on too much and then i had to guess the rest of the 5 questions before the time limit. (all guesses were wrong lol).

It was good. Didn't really do much this year though. Probably because the con was split into two separate buildings again. And one would have to ride Detroit's people mover to get back and forth, which were always crowded and uncomfortable.

Sure you could just walk back and forth, but the weather was always pretty cold or rainy, and you'd also have to sometimes walk past a bunch of Detroit's sleazeballs trying make passes at the cosplayers. Like this one girl who was walking in front of me. She was sporting a skirt, and she was basically getting harassed the whole walk there. smh

I'm doing okay. Feel kinda sickish now that I'm back though.

I never had the chance to visit a convention like that even though I'd really like it.

I'm sure it feels good being home though. It gives you strength to overcome all sicknesses.

Never stay on a question that requires too much time. Just leave those for the end after you've completed all the easier ones. Well, I usually get half of them right when I have to guess. :P

I definitely recommend going to a convention that pertains to any of your interests. But if you're going to go to one, try to bring some friends along or something. Not nearly as fun if you're going alone.

Yeah, I guess, but that means it's back to my boring, everyday life. heh :P

Yeah I'm lucky I've got friends with similar interests to mine like games, anime and we also go to the same university so our field of study is another thing in common.

Everyday life really is boring. Thank god for books, movies, shows and video games.

Holy crap! Maccabi Tel Aviv just had their first lost this season from 1-0 they lost 3-2. It was an amazing game but unfortunaly we lost :(

My fav team suffered a loss against the best team in the league which is kind of sad considering they played very well.
