"You got 20 million people out of work right now, Mr. President — out of work, with part-time work or they stopped looking for work. You shouldn't be on the Vineyard playing golf, you should be doing your job getting Americans back to work,"
-Mitt Romney said to thunderous applause at a town hall at the Exeter Historical Society."
Everytime a President goes on vacation, the opposite party tries to make a big deal of it by alluding that the president doesn't care about the state of the union and should be doing his job
But a president is never truly on vacation. The job follows him wherever he goes as does a sizeable contingent of aides, secret service and communications personnel as well as the military officers who carry the "football" with nuclear launch codes. In fact, Obama 10-day "vacation" to Martha's Vineyard last week included national security and intelligence briefings every single day with Homeland Security Advisor John Brennan.
Republicans have gone on full attack for Obama's little 10 day vacation, almost as if in retaliation to liberals constant critique of Bush's vacations. There's certainly a grudge.
And with good reason too. At this point in his presidency
Obama has spent 70 days on vacation. That's 23 days per year.
Bush has spent 225 days on vacation. That's 75 days per year.
Bush has spent more days on vacation during his first year alone, than Obama has all 3 years....and this is right after 9/11..
President Bush has spent a total of 1,020 days on vacation, averaging 128 days per year. Including 487 visits to Camp David and 490 trips to his ranch in Crawford. That's almost a full 3 years on "vacation."
CNN reports their vacation time after 31 months:
Obama = 61
Bush = 180
Clinton = 28
Reagan = 150
Even more appalling is that
- The Supreme Court takes 3 months off every single year
- Congress is currently taking 4 weeks recess from Washington
Well one could argue that the month Congress takes off is for them to connect with their constitutes but 60% of congressmen are reported to not schedule town hall meetings. Hypocrite much?
