is racism an American Principle?WolfattheDoor34haha i knew this would come up. do you know your history? how was america created? of that's right they SECEDED from great britain. watch the video before making dumbass assumptions
Knowing how the nation got its start, it seems impossible to say that secession is not an "American principle". In fact, treason itself has to be considered an American principle, given that our nation formed out of an act of treason.
However, I think we all know that the Federal Government is not going to allow a State to secede without a fight. If it's just a small number of States that attempts to secede, I think you can virtually guarantee it will end in failure.
A large number of States would be a different matter, but even then the chances of success will be close to nil. Better would be to pour your energies into campaigning. You have much better chances of a positive outcome there.
Frankly I don't know why everyone is so quick to want revolution (which is what secession would be, effectively). It's very very rare that a revolution results in success, and even more rare that a successful revolution results in a better living situation for the citizens of the resulting nation or even a stable Government. Revolution really is something that has to be reserved for when you feel that you objectively have nothing left to lose. Revolution is the hell of it!
Sure such a situation could arise, but I really don't think we're anywhere near such a critical point.

 did you just learn this?
is racism an American Principle?WolfattheDoor34well he does exemplify it well if that is one of his beliefs.
Amen. At some point, and it may be many years from now, people will look back and scratch their heads wondering wtf people were smoking when they attempted to label a president who is center-left on social issues and domestic issues, and center right on foreign policy an extremist socialist.Secession is something you should do when authority is immensely unjust
Not because the authority is a scary color

Ehh, the old man just wants some attention. He's never gonna get it though. Even when he says stuff that's completely batsh!t insane the G.O.P. - the party that promotes batsh!t insanity as a staple feature of its policies - actively tries to ignore him for some reason.
He's talking about the right to secede.Ron Paul seems to forget that the colonies secceded from Britian because of taxation without representation. We have representation. Ron ought to know this considering that he's one of those representatives.

Is he seriously arguing about the principle of secession?
It's not the "concept" of secession that has people shaking their heads, No one is saying that secession is inherently evil. Its the reasoning and timing of why these people want to secede that's generating publicity. "Oh, our guy didn't win, we're seceding!" and Ron Paul has the nerve to compare that to New England federalist or the confederate's attempt at succession over major political issues. (expansion of states, slavery and human trafficking).
These people calling for secession are a slap in the face to American history and deserve to be ridiculed.

That's what I'm saying, he's using "rights" as a straw man to condem the media's ridicule of these people. I'm saying they have every right to ridicule them because of the sheer ridiculousness of their reasons.
I'm ridiculing as hard as I can! But the Paulists are so...persistent. :(These people calling for secession are a slap in the face to American history and deserve to be ridiculed.

[QUOTE="Blue-Sky"]He's not saying that they should secede right now. he is saying that they have the right to. I believe the U.S. Civil War established rather conclusively that, no, they do NOT have the right to. A little known Republican president named Abe Lincoln settled the issue of the right to secede from the union. Is he seriously arguing about the principle of secession?

No sh*t? I never would have guessed that from the thread title.
because of the sheer ridiculousness of their reasons.Blue-SkyWhat are the reasons given for secession? If it involved the unfunded liabilities, and the debt...
yes
in other news, nothing has changed in the past 250 years, and everything from 250 years ago is still relevant.

Scratch your head not longer my friend, because there is a segment of our country that will label Obama as every negative thing possible simply because he is a brown skinned democratSecession is something you should do when authority is immensely unjust

But the south loves to talk about secession whenever they recieve a political butt-hurt

I know. We men have it so tough, its not fair. Gotta break through that glass ceiling!
