Theyre picking sides in the future wars of South America.
This will not effect the US at all lol.
Also, Chavez himself has said he has no problem with America outside of disliking the government. In fact, I recall him saying he likes our culture and iirc he gave out free gas in Harlem or something
nothing compared to what america has given some countries in the past (and present, yeah I'm looking at you israel)

God, I love this argument soooooo much.
"America did it, and it was wrong, so its ok for us to do it too!"
Learn from our mistakes, folks, dont justify your own with our example.

I'm not justifying either sides actions. I just like point out how hypocritical Americans can beDon't mind if Russia does that. It's their money. If they want to give it away then more power to them. Though I'm sure Colombia will not be happy if some of that 2bn loaned out to them ends up buying weapons that miraculously ends up in the hands of FARC.

we'll say "dont do this, it doesnt serve our interests, and its bad"
we wont say "we tried this once with countless countriess, it failed...we urge you not to do this"
ah well, what you gonna do?
To clarify russia is sending 2billion worth in weapons to venezuala and are basically crediting them the cost.
The socialist leader suggested that Colombia's decision to grant America access to seven military bases was a threat to Venezuelan security.
"We have the largest petroleum reserves in the world. The empire has its sights on them," he said, using a term which he commonly uses to refer to the US.
He's got a point lol.

While Venezuela surely has some huge reserves it seems Chavez has been sampling the porducts his FARC buddies have been dealing. Saudi Arabia still has the largest oil reserves in the world. The way the greenies have been moving forward with a sympathetic ear in the White House hopefully US dependence on oil shipments from Venezuela will go down.
Chavez can get assassinated now or two years from now and Russia will not go to war with the US over it even if proof was shown the US had a hand in it. Chavez is being used as a pawn by Russia and he doesn't even realize it.

I'd say this if it weren't for Chavez going to the russians instead of the russians going to him. Russia won't do anything for a chavez assasination because they wouldn't be in their right to do so. Venezuala is not part of russia nor do they have a shared government. The only reason the russians are probably helping so much is that the US doesn't have armies around the major oil areas of the world. That would suck for my country to since we are just off the coast of venezuala our economy basically runs on oil :P. Remember the russians don't need oil, they supply alot of europe so they are ok in that department, but the thing is the major oil nations are all unfriendly to the US government, which sucks for the country that uses the most resources.

You misunderstand me. When I say Russia wouldn't go to war with the US if Chavez was assassinated I meant they couldn't care less who was in charge of Venezuela as long as whoever was in power remains a thorn in the side of the US and friendly to Moscow. The moment Chavez outlives his usefulness to Moscow he's pretty much useless and goes back to being ablowhard who happens to have oil to sell.
As for oil nations being unfriendly to the US it's not all but some. Saudi Arabia and the other Persian Gulf states not named Iran may not be BFF's with the US but they all know the US is what keeps Iran from engulfing all of them to create Iran's dream of a Pan-Arab Superstate. What's going on now is almost like Cold War-lite. A predicament that is more than welcome to the powers that be in the US. What better way to increase defense spending to Cold War levels than to raise the spectre that Russia is arming and/or helping nations in the Western Hemisphere who are belligerent to the US.
I wouldn't be surprised if the US defense budget for the next FY sees a major increase with some of it dedicated to helping "assist" Colombia against FARC and the narco-terrorists in and around its borders. Which in turn will make Chavez go to Russia hat in hand or vice versa asking for more. It's been done before and in a larger scale just a couple decades past. I grew up in those times and whats going on now is nothing compared to those.

Fandangle
Business is business
Exactly, the Russians would sell weapons to Canada if it meant they got something out of it.
