No go on the no-fly zone over Libya. Not sure what that would entail or how it would be implemented. Arab league also calling for no-fly zone.

The spread of western democracy must be frightening to Russia and Germany.

I agree getting involved in another conflict is not the way forward but I'd hardly say the UK and France are war hungry. I think thats a bit extreme and unfair a comment. Maybe the goverments of both the UK and France misguided perhaps, but not war hungry. Also don't forget the Arab league with it's 22 members are trying to encourage the enforcement of a no-fly zone. Therefore it's hardly fair to paint the picture that two advocates of such a measure are in on it alone.

The OP mentioned UK and France weren't the only ones responding with calls for a no-fly zone. Twenty-Two other countries specific to the region were also making that call. Thats why I think it's unfair to solely mention the UK and France as instigators.

I get Russia, but why Germany? They're a legitimate republican democracy now.

The trouble with a no fly zone is that it typically involves going to war or conflict. Especially in Libya's situation where their current dictatorship feels like it's backed in a corner, there's no telling what they would do. Enforcing a no fly zone often times means utilizing both air and ground troops. If France feels very strong about this, they may have to be the country that supplies the vast majority of those troops, supplies, and finances.

Also enforcing a no-fly zone requires eliminating Libya's air defences, which in itself is grounds for war.

Can't really say I blame them. I don't feel like having the US dragged into another war. Or forced to finance one through the UN.

Don't act as if the USA is the passive member of wars. He doesn't get "dragged" into wars or forced to finance them due to UN, he starts them (sometimes against the majority of UN's will).
