The thing is most people in China that would be involved in most jobs you might be dealing with, speak English. I have been to Hong Kong, and yeah I know that's a little different because it was an English colony, but still I worked with a lot of people from all over China and they all spoke English. This is in the banking industry.
I also went to Tokyo, Singapore, and Seoul. There was no problem with speaking only English in any of those places except Seoul. Very few people in Korea speak English. The taxi drivers don't at all so it makes it very difficult to go anywhere. Plus in the business meetings we had in Seoul we had to have a translator because all the Korean people from the bank did not speak English. This is the only place this happened. Everyone in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore spoke English.
So I think it depends on what career you are going into. And as far as in the USA, Spanish will benefit you WAY more than Chinese.
