Russia isn't happy about this deal. It was just on the news that a Russian general is threatening to attack Poland.

They don't want Georgia to join NATO. Besides Russia has already taken over the border.

By keeping the border in conflict, Georgia cannot join NATO. Not until the border issue is resolved.

Then they've occupied it. If they do, the West isn't going to be happy.

protecting an allied nation is a disaster? With that said, what makes Russia correct in this issue? Is it simply because its the US "meddling" in another country that accepted our assistance?

Listen, I understand why the US is not loved when it comes to our policies internationally, but the cause of every problem isnt the US. The Russians are sabre-rattling, and the person doing the rattling is a general (i.e. he does not make policy) and should be ignored, plain and simple.

Quite frankly, I am tired of this blatant anti-US crap. If you have a legitimate complaint about the US (Iraq War, treatment of Japanese during WWII, Vietnam War, Patriot Act) then by all means make a complaint. Just dont let your default answer to every international problem be "USA caused it".

This is just perfect, Poland agrees to this now? Something that was already controversial now being agreed upon during this conflict? That's just antagonizing and isn't help defuse the situation.

Now then, Dmitri, you know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the Bomb... The *Bomb*, Dmitri... The *hydrogen* bomb!... Well now, what happened is... ahm... one of our base commanders, he had a sort of... well, he went a little funny in the head... you know... just a little... funny. And, ah... he went and did a silly thing... Well, I'll tell you what he did. He ordered his planes... to attack your country... Ah... Well, let me finish, Dmitri... Let me finish, Dmitri... Well listen, how do you think I feel about it?... Can you *imagine* how I feel about it, Dmitri?... Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello?... *Of course* I like to speak to you!... *Of course* I like to say hello!... Not now, but anytime, Dmitri. I'm just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened... It's a *friendly* call. Of course it's a friendly call...

This shield is directly directed against Russia. If it is for Iran than it should be better that it is in Turkey. I it is for N. Korea then Japan is better. Both Japan and Turkey is US allays. This is more logical to me

As for the missiles, well, the missiles are in Poland because Poland wants them there. Not because the US wants them there. If Poland said "no", there would be no missiles.

But I agree, it was stupid of Bush to say something. We need to observe from the sideliens on this one and, if necessary, strip down and streak through the field if a major conflict looks like its coming.

"up to something"

the only thing the US is "up to" is protecting its nation's owns interests, which is the obligation of any government to its people.

But the way you phrased it makes it sound like some conspiracy. Thats cool, Ive always had a hunch that the US and Poland are making an army of gerbil-ninjas to infiltrate Soviet, errrr, Russian air ducts and kill their leaders.

The only thing I find weird about the sudden missle setup is that the build was delayed for a long time, and suddenly It was agreed while the Russian-Georgian conflict is going on.

so youre saying Russia is not a threat any more? I know they arent now (I dont consciously fear russia a nd think of them as the old Soviet Union), but that can change in a matter of hours.

guys, terrorists dont have a lot of missiles. Russia does.

you dont need a missile screen to stop a snuke.

[QUOTE="ishoturface"][QUOTE="Vilot_Hero"]The USA is creating one disaster after another. I don't see why Georgia doesn't let Russia have SO.Vilot_Hero

it does not have anything to do with the U.S. the russians have always hated the polish

Considering the USA has been wanting to build missle defenses in Poland and Czech Republic. Personally I think the States are up to something.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/2559818/Poland-and-US-agree-deal-for-missle-defence-shield.html

can ya blame the U.S. setting up missle defenses?

and besides russia is the last country the U.S. would attack except maybe Nk, china, iran but other than that the u.s. has no reason to attack russia

why? would you let canada have an american state? or vice versa. SO is part of georgia. You cant just let anyone take it through force, then you cant call yourself a soverign nation

The people in SO are mainly Russian, so It would make sense to let Russia have that area.

The people in Florida are mainly Cuban, so let's give that to Cuba.:|

A good chunk of them are. Mainly because of immigrants (both legal and illegal).

The point is just because a bunch of people in SO were Russian does not give Russia the right to take SO from Georgia.

I think the Russians disagree, and they are the one's that are going to get the final say.

Good for the Russians.:| But there are rules that extend beyond Russia, and they violated them. Whether they have the final say or not, Russia is in the wrong.

Fair enough, but Russia still had a good motive to invade Georgia.

What did Russia do that the United States hasn't done in the last five years? We invaded two countries and are occupying both of them. Russia on the other hand has only invaded one country and has only occupied one third of it. A country that has a close history with Russia and where in South Ossetia there are 90% Russians. South Ossetia has been independent since 1992, they have been running things themselves since then. Then all of a sudden Georgia comes along and wants that area back and invades it. Russia retaliates and here we are. Sorry for repeating the events that have led to this point, but I just felt it necessary to drawn the big distinctions between this and what the U.S. has done. Like how the Iraqis didn't want us to invade them, but South Ossetia wanted the help from Russia.

SS-27 Topol M and SS-24 are capable of penetrating any missile shield.

I'm no expert, I only read that
