I think she was a very good choice, albeit not what I would have gone for.

He didn't make the McCain campaign any LESS exciting, if that's what you mean. Didn't exactly add any excitement, but whatever...

It was a brilliant choice. 1. She's young. It helps put to rest concerns of McCain's age. 2. She's a governor. It helps balance the ticket with a senator. 3. She's a woman. It helps distract frtom the whole "first black president" hype 4. She's conservative. It helps McCain with the social conseravtives that he has alienated. 5. She's inexperienced, but more experienced than Obama. That keeps McCain's favorite attack alive. 6. She comes from humble roots, which helps to kill the "big fat rich white guy" image of the GOP.

If I was a hardcore conservative I think I'd be happy with the choice (and that's the group McCain was looking to gain support from with the pick)

No, she was a terrible choice.

John McCain had THREE potential really good candidates: Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Joe Lieberman.

All three had more experience and more knowledge on the national stage. Although that's not saying much, Palin has little experience and NO knowledge on the national stage.

Romney and Pawlenty would have brought on a "unity ticket" as much if not more than Plain will.

So what did McCain accomplish by picking her? He showed us that he thinks he can get the butthurt Hillary supporters by merely picking a woman instead of a much better candidate. He showed us that he doesn't care if he throws out his number 1 argument, experience. How can McCain accuse Obama of being inexperienced when he trusts someone that is just as inexperienced to be his number two? Fact is, he can't.

Up until the Bush Administration we all thought that the VP didn't really do much, however Cheney showed us that him and Rove practically ran the operation so we know that the VP has a strong influence on everything the Head Hauncho does. Not only that but at 73 having cancer twice, and still obviously suffering from PTS how can we trust this Plain to lead should the need arise?

If McCain had picked Romney or Lieberman I might have considered voting for him, no chance in hell I'm doing that now.

I guess I'm a bit indifferent. I'm not inclined to vote for McCain, anyway. I would have liked to have seen Romney. I think that would have been the most adroit choice, considering McCain is weak on the economy and hasn't secured his conservative base.

Picking a Mormon would have made it worse. Mormonism is viewed as a cult by the most Conservative Conservatives.

I'd generally agree with you but everything seemed to indicate conservatives were pulling for Romney. Picking a woman certainly puts McCain in a precarious position considering his problems with the right wing, anyway.

Okhoth have you heard of the Hillary supporters for Mccain?
They are the biggest group of idiots around and yet it seemed to me that Mccain's choosing Palin means he is trying to pander to those fools......

Yes I very much feel Palin got the vote for being a women granted his VP choice doesn't matter to me as I would sooner die than vote for a candidate as AWFUL as Mccain....

Lieberman is very much pro-choice so I don't see how that would have helped McCain who a lot of Republicans find to be too liberal.

It being the largest state in the Union would be in terms of Area. That means nothing if there aren't many people in it. I'm just saying that executive experience would count more if it was in a state with a good amount of people to govern. You forget that most of Alaska's population is concentrated in Jenuea.

Is she really a creationist, Theokoth? If so I despair that anyone who has so completely failed to grasp such a simple scientific theory should be given such a position. I just don't think it a positive indicator of her intelligence.

She supports allowing Creationism being taught in schools, though not necessarily science cIasses, but she opposes choosing a person's job based on whether or not he believes in God.

Basically she's more liberal in that area.

Um, that quote? Taken completely out of context. She wants a position of meaning, and not something that means nothing. It's like asking your husband "what do you do at work all day but sit around and play at computers" even though you know he works in an office. But people just love to jump on that quote. . . .

That works the other way too, if you trust Palin then you should have no problem with Obama

My God!

Who ever heard of such an abnormality?

And she's pro-life? She MUST be blending religion with politics, as there is no such thing as a pro-life atheist or agnostic! Such a beast does not exist.
