So were any of you guys actually satisfied with this turn of events?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No, she was a terrible choice.
John McCain had THREE potential really good candidates: Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Joe Lieberman.
All three had more experience and more knowledge on the national stage. Although that's not saying much, Palin has little experience and NO knowledge on the national stage.
Romney and Pawlenty would have brought on a "unity ticket" as much if not more than Plain will.
So what did McCain accomplish by picking her? He showed us that he thinks he can get the butthurt Hillary supporters by merely picking a woman instead of a much better candidate. He showed us that he doesn't care if he throws out his number 1 argument, experience. How can McCain accuse Obama of being inexperienced when he trusts someone that is just as inexperienced to be his number two? Fact is, he can't.
Up until the Bush Administration we all thought that the VP didn't really do much, however Cheney showed us that him and Rove practically ran the operation so we know that the VP has a strong influence on everything the Head Hauncho does. Not only that but at 73 having cancer twice, and still obviously suffering from PTS how can we trust this Plain to lead should the need arise?
If McCain had picked Romney or Lieberman I might have considered voting for him, no chance in hell I'm doing that now.

While she wasn't on the same level as them, she has a lot of experience. Have you seen her career history?

I'm sure the Hillary supporters would love a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-death penalty, anti-gay, pro-creationism woman more than alienated social conservatives.

If we can trust Obama, we should have no problem with Palin.

I guess I'm a bit indifferent. I'm not inclined to vote for McCain, anyway. I would have liked to have seen Romney. I think that would have been the most adroit choice, considering McCain is weak on the economy and hasn't secured his conservative base.xXBuffJeffXx
Picking a Mormon would have made it worse. Mormonism is viewed as a cult by the most Conservative Conservatives.

I'd generally agree with you but everything seemed to indicate conservatives were pulling for Romney. Picking a woman certainly puts McCain in a precarious position considering his problems with the right wing, anyway.
Okhoth have you heard of the Hillary supporters for Mccain?
They are the biggest group of idiots around and yet it seemed to me that Mccain's choosing Palin means he is trying to pander to those fools......
Yes I very much feel Palin got the vote for being a women granted his VP choice doesn't matter to me as I would sooner die than vote for a candidate as AWFUL as Mccain....

Just out of curiousity what makes her more experienced than Obama. Is it the fact that she is a governer of a state with one of the smallest populations?

Executive experience.

You mean the largest state in the union?
And no.

Yes I have, and she seems to be a great governor. But so were (are) Romney and Pawlenty, and Lieberman is a great Senator.

And still a more experienced person who has all the same credentials would have been better, right? She's already tried to copy Hillary's 18 million cracks speech, so that HAD to have been one of the deciding factors in his pick.
Actually, Palin has more experience than Obama.;)Theokhoth
Really? She may have more political experience, but she's never been on the national stage, and she's even admitted to knowing little about what the VP does. (BUT SHE HAS FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE!)
If we can trust Obama, we should have no problem with Palin.Theokhoth
That works the other way too, if you trust Palin then you should have no problem with Obama

It being the largest state in the Union would be in terms of Area. That means nothing if there aren't many people in it. I'm just saying that executive experience would count more if it was in a state with a good amount of people to govern. You forget that most of Alaska's population is concentrated in Jenuea.
Is she really a creationist, Theokoth? If so I despair that anyone who has so completely failed to grasp such a simple scientific theory should be given such a position. I just don't think it a positive indicator of her intelligence.

She supports allowing Creationism being taught in schools, though not necessarily science cIasses, but she opposes choosing a person's job based on whether or not he believes in God.
Basically she's more liberal in that area.

Um, that quote? Taken completely out of context. She wants a position of meaning, and not something that means nothing. It's like asking your husband "what do you do at work all day but sit around and play at computers" even though you know he works in an office. But people just love to jump on that quote. . . .

:| I'm more comfortable with Palin because she's more experienced than Obama.

When 60 Minutes interviewed Obama earlier they asked him what he thought of McCain picking a VP with less experience than him, so obviously the general concensus is that her experiences are worth less than his.TBoogy
:lol::lol::lol:
"60 minutes said it! Therefore the general consensus agrees with 60 minutes!"
That is so ridiculous.
I hate her policies, she is obviously mixing her religion with her politics. And it's painfully obvious McCain chose her as a cheap political move to get more votes.yabbicoke
Aren't all VP's meant to be political expedients? I mean, a VP that loses you votes isn't exactly a good choice.
[QUOTE="yabbicoke"]I hate her policies, she is obviously mixing her religion with her politics.Theokhoth
And how is this obvious?
She pretty much said so when she was talking about how she supports pro-life. I wonder if a majority of women will still vote for her if she keeps that stance.

My God!
A woman who is pro-life!
Who ever heard of such an abnormality?
And she's pro-life? She MUST be blending religion with politics, as there is no such thing as a pro-life atheist or agnostic! Such a beast does not exist.
[QUOTE="Sim_genius"]Gays seem to like her despite the fact she's republican. Such thing is beyond my comprehension. Theokhoth
Gay Republicans! They don't exist. Just like gay Christians or Christian Irishmen.

Wow, what ridiculous propaganda. Her quotes, particularly the one about the VP position, was OUT OF CONTEXT! Why can't people seem to get this through their heads?
And if she was such a horrible leader in Alaska, then why does she have an 80% approval rating there?
