With all of this unnecessary fear of global warming, do you stop to think about the poor. Politically the ones who scream the world is coming to an end because we eat meat and drive a car are the ones who want the rich to give their money to the poor because it is not fair to have more money. Well this does not make sense. If we start to tax more for using oil and electricity that is going to raise the poor peoples bills. What about the tax break for the rich that can afford the hybrids? The poor that cant afford the hybrids will have to drive the gas guzzling automobiles and pay extra for destroying the earth. How will the poor people be able to cover their carbon foot print when they cant afford it? They can just go buy carbon credits like Al Gore. I know I am a mean old conservative and so is Bush (he wishes he was conservative). If you actually think that Bush has anything to do with global warming check this out. He is more environmentally friendly than Al Gore by far. Maybe Gore should stop being a fake and blaming you for the problem he creates. Check this out!

Im getting sick of these dumb global warming threads. Its happeing, whether its our cause or not,we have a choice to try to prevent it.Worry about the poor and money? The impact of global warming would not only kill the poor, but also lead to millions more with no home. As of Al Gore, the impact hes done, and the change he caused if far better than anything Bush has done. Bush the guy who worried about the US losing 400billion on global warming back in 2000, yet hes spent that much as of now on his "war on terror" which has done nothing good.

Truth isn't really stranger than fiction in my opinion. I love when people say these BS things like millions will die, and the northern hemisphere will flood over... Nobody knows what will happen because man hasn't been recording this kind of stuff for a long enough period of time.

its not hard to predict what happens when large amount of ice melt. They know if all plays out it can cause a rise in sea level. Along with that the change in weather conditions. Spread of disease. Yes these are all predictions, but to say, no lets wait and see, or its not gonna happen yet evidence shows it will is not a very bright thing to do. We cant chance the lives of so many. This global warming thing really is a flip of the coin thing, it gonna happen, or it wont, but we cant risk it, especially when we know whats at stack. What sounds dumber, telling your kids in 20 years" ow we tried stopping global warming, but it wasnt real and there was a mass economic depression"...or " we did nothing to prevent it, leading to the death of millions, economic depression, war, massive change in climate, and so much more."

Humans cant take all the blame, i agree with that. This is a normal cycle on earth for the co2 and temp tp rise and fall. However, that normal cycle has been impacted by humans. Our addition of co2 is gonna alter that cycle were it will reach new hieghts, and there will be more co2 than the cycle has ever produced. We may not be able to stop it, but limiting our co2, doing research, and trying to cut back willl atleast help make the impact of global warming less servere.

People say it halts development. However we cant live in the past. In order for humans to survive, global warming or not, we must advance. We must get cleaner fuels and technology, not just to stop global warming, but to develop into a new age.

And I don't recall any notable politicians in recent memory saying we shouldn't eat meat.

Providing a tax break for hybrids is stupid though. They already save money on gas.

Why do so many "Christians" support Bush when it is pretty clear that he is anything but? I mean, sure he has something against gays, but he lies so much that one can almost assume that the opposite of whatever he says when speaking to the public is the truth.

It is disappointing to hear that Bush is be more green, atleast with his house, than Al Gore. I would expect more from the man who is one of the biggest voices of global warming. But I find it a small thing in a much bigger issue. The difference between there homes, is overshadow by there total impact toward global warming. Bush doesnt seem to be doing anything to help prevent global warming, even when foreign and domestic leaders disagree, not to mention alot of the US population. Al Gore, although all the criticsms he gets on his footprint and house, and the way he handled the live earth, i cant blame him for that because of the change he has caused over the 20 or more years that hes been debating global warming. Cause no matter what people say, he has done alot to atleast educate more people on what they can do, even if he cant seem to do it himselfYes he should start trying to lower his footprint, make his house a little eco freindly, and props to Bush for his home.

I recently bought the Planet Earth DVD series and it includes a VERY similar supplementary series about man's impact on nature. Except that instead of being about global warming, it was about destruction of habitats, extinction of species, stuff like that.

But I found it very interesting because it didn't offer any solutions. It simply showed that there was a huge problem, and had video clips of people on opposing sides of the argument giving their opinions.

Anyway, the thing is that in a way both sides are right. Global warming and habitat destruction are VERY serious problems that need to be seriously addressed. However, it's also a very serious problem that a lot of people (actually, probably MOST people) don't have the luxury of decreasing our carbon footprints. A lot of people's entire livelihoods depend on cutting down rainforests and destroying habitats for piss poor wages. But when you've got no othe choice, what else can you do? I'm all for preserving the environment but if it comes down to a choice between helping to wipe out a species and feeding my children, the Columbian hissing rabbit is just gonna have to die.

I think that both sides need to see the things from the other side's point of view. Yes, we NEED to be more environmentally responsible. At the same time, we also NEED to address the needs of the poor whose only means of subsistence is through environmentally destructive means. "Saving" the environment is NOT a solution if it requires us to say "the hell with the impoverished".

We need to find specific solutions that address both issues simultaneously. And I'm sorry to say that I don't have any solutions.

Also, those of you who don't believe global warming doesn't exist, keep in mind what will happen if you're wrong; larger storms, greater in number, hundreds of millions of people displace, incredible amounts of land and crop loss, hundreds of millions starving as a result, wars breaking out over scarce land and resources, ect. ect.

Poor people don't give a f*** about global warming. They are worried more about feeding there family and staying out of homelessness.

None of these politicians are "Poor People". If you wanna see what poor people think about Global Warming, visit a Housing Project in your town/city and ask people if they give a crap about Global Warming or do they just want a better job to buy there children food an bus tokens.

although i may agree with you that global warmings real, we dont need the insults, everyones entitled to there own opinion.

I like a lot of what you say. My real problem is with the government. I dont like them telling me what to do. I actually enjoy recycling and driving my small honda civic, it cost very little to fill up. I am actually thinking about limiting the amount of meat in my diet for health reasons. I would much rather buy local organic food and local grain fed meat. It is better for the business's that support me in my area and better for me. I think that it is very important to try to keep the earth clean. I dont like to do it by force. The government does not need to do this. The people should support the companies that put the effort into cleaning things up and doing more to help the environment. Forcing them to do it is just a way for people to be lazy and not take the action they should but making somebody else do it. To keep a business going the way they want they can take short cuts and find loopholes to do what they want to do. Then we will complain when we dont think it is right. But we dont take action because we are lazy. We want the government to do it. That gives them more power when we are the ones with the true power. If the people actually stop talking about it and start doing it that is when things will change. Thats why I call Al Gores bluff.

As of Al Gore, the impact hes done, and the change he caused if far better than anything Bush has done. Bush the guy who worried about the US losing 400billion on global warming back in 2000, yet hes spent that much as of now on his "war on terror" which has done nothing good.

I would love to hear you comment on the difference between Bush's house verse Gore's house

When it comes down to it there needs to be a fine line drawn between the government and the average citizen. We as citizens and humans for that matter have alot that we can do on our own to help prevent not only global warming, but also pollution, and other forms of environmental destruction. However the government isnt completely useless in this matter (although it seems the one we have now is) because they are the only ones who can really do anything when it comes to controllling the big businesses like the oil companies and factories. I hope in this next election we get a president whos not a scared freak who goes nuts about global warming, but atleast one who relizes there a problem with the earth as a whole, and the least he can do is regulate co2 and other pollutant from big business, nothing to drastic if he thinks it not needed, but atleast something. But us average citizens have alot to do ourselfs, no matter what the governemt says. People dont relize that it only takes a few small things, by a large amount of people to make a change. This is the reason I supprt Al GOre, because he doesnt help when it comes to spread the word on what we can do. And if more people listen to him, for atleast the facts on our own prevention then we would see a big change, and maybe our changes to ourselfs will set an example for the governement and big businees to follow.

Is it? If the earth keeps getting warmer, wouldn't it stand to reason that more water would evaporate into the atmosphere? How do you know that would not be enough to take care of the water by itself?

Yes, there could be massive disease, global flooding, millions of deaths and so on...; but we can just go off following after the most popular social fad, no matter who endorses it. We can't just say that if we don't act and it does happen it will be worse than if it does happen and we don't act. The reason being is that their have been popular movements like this many many times in the past for various things. What happened to that comet (Swift-Tuttle I believe) that was supposed to collide with Earth in the 90s? Nothing, it missed. What about the great society collapse of Jan 1, 2000? Nothing much. Now, I realize that just because scientists have been wrong in the past doesn't automatically discredit them. But people have to accept that we can't just go chasing after every doomsday prediction or it's very likely that we'll bring doomsday upon ourselves by the collapse of our economy and government.

That said, I sort of support the global warming fearmongering. For one, it will force crooked corporations to stop ruining the environment for everyone and everything else. No matter what happens, making the earth a cleaner place is always a good idea. Second, it will bring new competition into badly needed markets. I'd love to be able to give my money to someone other than the big oil tycoons for a change. Third, it stimulates the economy. There's nothing like telling people the earth will be virtually uninhabitable in 50 years to make people spend some cash.

In conclusion, we can just go traipsing off after every new popular scare. We have to approach this in an intelligent way. But we must approach it, we can't just put it off forever.

Not wanting to waste my time with ostentatiously biased sources is biased? I give up.

Are you giving up because I sent more liberal links than conservative ones?

Why don't we all urge our representatives and senators to switch to nuclear power? Cuts down energy costs for everyone (France is 80% nuclear powered and has the cheapest electricity in Europe) and would give a medium for automobile companies to test cheap electric cars on. There are more radical ways to do this that would benefit the poor, but people just aren't going to switch to bicycles and horses on a tremendous scale. They want to do what's fast and easy.

I'm giving up because your logic makes roughly zero sense to me. Not wanting to waste my time with extremely biased sources makes me bised...lol. How does that work? Then again, aren't you the one who asked in some other thread why nobody ever says Muslims are running the U.S. government? I guess I'd have to listen to right-wing radio to understand.

Anyway, three of those other four articles make no mention of Gore whatsoever, so tell me again how this isn't about applauding Bush?

I don't know most of those other sites, but Common Dreams is also pretty biased, just the other way, which is kind of amusing. They supposedly got their article from The Chicago Tribune anyway (although I couldn't find it on that site, I assume because it is old.)

Okay, time to go do something, uh, interesting.
