I mean for example if your checking out, or if somebody is trying to get you to do something. Is it considered improper to completely just ignore them?

If someone greets you, it is considered proper to return the favour.harashawn
yeah, but then they ask so what are you doing, hows it going, I mean I will say things like this alot. Sometimes though I just want to have no conversation though

Well if they great you and ask you how youre doing yea you gotta get into a little chat with them but it doesn't have to be long just enough to not seem rudeI think that it would be more awkward than rude for the person starting the conversation. People used to do that at my work all of the time, sometimes they're just not conversationalists.
depends what they want you to do
normally, i just make eye contact and smile
thats usually good enough
If someone initiates contact, I'll smile or say hello back.
Some people just prefer to talk to as few people as possible and just want to get whatever they're doing done and over with. When I worked as a cashier, I absolutely hated it when soccer moms would decide to tell me their life story.
If you are checking out then you have way more things to worry about than saying hello to someone...lolI mean for example if your checking out, or if somebody is trying to get you to do something. Is it considered improper to completely just ignore them?
