I mean a new one. Not the classics and not remakes.

Hm haven't seen Insidious, but heard good things. The films I'd consider scary are Suspiria, Shining and Candyman (all old). The recent horrors I watched were all more leaning to the comedic/slasher side.MrPraline
I've seen candyman and the shining. I agree that they are pretty scary.

I will never understand how people find that film scary, but to each there own. I just can't see the fear in a random bed sheet moving, or chicken footprints appearing in some salt.
That is because scares/horror is incredibly subjective.Hm haven't seen Insidious, but heard good things. The films I'd consider scary are Suspiria, Shining and Candyman (all old). The recent horrors I watched were all more leaning to the comedic/slasher side.MrPraline
Insidious sucked monkey turds, the whole thing was predictable and I literally called what the ending was going to be 1/2 way through it with 100% accuracy.
Drag Me to Hell was pretty good. I saw it in theatres and some of the scenes were deafening, I'm not sure if that's scary though.
Wait, you weren't??? What horror movies have you seen?!?[QUOTE="BreakingDeath"][QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"]

2. Really liked. 3. Loved. It's my favorite horror movie of all-time(but, you think Paranormal Activity is scarier? How so?) 8. Really good/great movie. 10. Good movie. 11. Bad movie, I hate it with a passion. 16. Nice choice, I really like that movie. 17. Decent movie. I haven't seen the rest.[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"][QUOTE="BreakingDeath"] Wait, you weren't??? It was pretty average, and it - in a way - sucked. But, I call BS on you calling the ending.Insidious and Paranormal Activity 3 are probably the two scariest horror movies I have seen.
I thought Insidious did a GREAT job building up tension and creating suspense. It loses it's way a bit towards the end but then that ending finishes it off nicely.
As for Paranormal Activity 3, it has some seriously brilliant scares in it. One of the best horror sequels I have ever seen surprisingly enough.
Oh and the Descent is AMAZING as well.
Annnndd Rec and Rec 2 are both GREAT!

TC: "Not the classics and not remakes."
Oh, yeah. Honestly, the TC shot himself in the foot there. Did he want us all to say "Insidious" and "The Ring"? Neither of them were scary, so I'll pass. How about "The House Of The Devil? Oh, and I've seen "The Thing", but I didn't like it. The effects really degraded the movie, for me. It took a scary premise and made it laughable.Devil was a recent movie that was kind of scary but the scariest movies I have ever seen are the ring, 1403, and the last exorcism but those aren't as recent, I saw Insidious and Paranormal Activity 3 and didn't really think much of either

Obvious ending is obvious.

"Martyrs" and "The Orphanage", of recent memory. I will mention classics though with "In the Mouth of Madness", "Fire in the Sky", "Exorcist" and "Evil dead" being among my favorites in the genre.
Can I just ask what people's obsession is with "The Descent"? I tried so damn hard to like it. I love the genre itself, but ugh. I enjoyed it heavily, up until the horror part came in. I would have enjoyed it as another one of those "trapped in a cave" movies. It's like as soon as they appeared, all direction sort of just fell flat.
Being the scariest horror movie is like being the funniest Adam Sandler movie.themajormayorWhat horror movies have you seen? Just American ones?

That would make more sense. I thought this was one of those "I-knew-what-was-going-to-happen-the-moment-It-started" situations. Yeah, it was quite obvious something was wrong with him from the beginning. Now that I think about it, I think I made it half way through, but I knew the ending and everything else based on research. It was just a very well-made movie, especially for a horror movie. Can I just ask what people's obsession is with "The Descent"? I tried so damn hard to like it. I love the genre itself, but ugh. Another chick that finds "The Ring" to be scary, but not "The Shining". Eh.. BreakingDeathNot really sure what that's supposed to mean.. I only recently (within the last five years) managed to watch The Shining. I'm sure if I was a child I would have absolutely crapped myself. The Ring was one of my first horror movies(late in life, parents never let me watch anything scary), so I really can't judge between the two. Scary-movie virginity and "seen every trick in the book" viewings aren't the same, by the time I saw The Shining I'd watched all sorts of things. I don't know if I totally missed the psychological mind-F that was supposed to be happening during The Shining but it didn't do much for me. Perhaps I'll give it another watch, but I didn't love it.

It's just my way of pointing out a connection; females seem to be afraid of blatant freaky/horror movies, rather than slow-tension building horror movies. Ah, all right. Again, "scary" is subjective, I just find it weird how people(girls) are terrified of "The Ring", but don't flinch while watching "The Shining" - I'm the complete opposite. Have you seen "The House Of The Devil"?
