No. It's not racist. And it's not discrimination either if they don't allow anyone to wear that styIe. Schools are allowed to set dress code.
its stupid the way schools try and control the way kids look. fine uniforms ill accept but at least you can take them off. and its not like cornrows are an extreme hairstyle, they're pretty normal.xTheExploited
Plus if you look at the article these cornrows aren't the "trashy thug" type, they actually look pretty nice. There's no way this hairstyle would encourage gang culture.
Not wanting him to look like a fool is racist? Didn't know only blacks could put their hair in that style.
So braids make people look like fools? In short, yes. They look like little turds dangling from someones head.encourage gang culture? really? i don't know who's right and who's wrong but thats pretty much generalizing. Oh man that kid has cornrows i feel like doing a drive by shooting now!!...

lol "ban gang culture"? How paranoid are schools these days? One of the reasons I am hesitant about having kids...
[QUOTE="Fundai"]They said braids promote gang culture... Which if they didn't live under a rock in today's society, dredlocks fit this description ALOT more. Not racist, and schools are aloud to set policies...
Marth6781
They were wrong in doing that yes... But that isn't racist, they never said "Braids promoted Gang Culture in Blacks", they said "Braids promoted gang culture".
its still BS, but its not connected to a race at all, unless your gonna be racist and say only blacks wear cornrows... :P
Lol this isn't racism.
My school doesn't allow anything other than formal hairstyles.
You can't use hairgel and they don't even allow something like this.

That wasn't even corn rows in that picture... it was just braids. So braids make people look like fools?Cornrows? Yes. It's a completely idiotic hair style.[QUOTE="Marth6781"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]

yeah I have to agree with this.
saw a lot of cornrows in my life, and only one looked good (on a half-Japanese girl I know), but that got old pretty quick lol.
So braids make people look like fools?Cornrows? Yes. It's a completely idiotic hair style. Well they've been around for thousands of years and Im'm sure they will stay around for a long time also.[QUOTE="Marth6781"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]

But you know what they meant. You don't have to say something racist or stereotypical to be deemed as such. What are they trying to say when they say "cornrows" encourage gang culture?... I think that it self is racist. If they want to stop gang culture they should start teaching Philosophy as a compulsory subject.Grey_Eyed_Elf
they do........in england anyway

Yeah I don't think teaching philosophy is going to solve the societal issues that generate gang culture.[QUOTE="Fundai"][QUOTE="Marth6781"] They said braids promote gang culture... Which if they didn't live under a rock in today's society, dredlocks fit this description ALOT more.Marth6781

But you know what they meant. You don't have to say something racist or stereotypical to be deemed as such.Which is a problem, because somepeople think they can just Cry "Racist!" with out stoping to think wether or not it is, or not even caring wether or not it is.
i think it looks pretty redilicious but who am i to judge someone. if he wants that hairstyle he should be allowed to.
Dress code does not encompass hair.No. It's not racist. And it's not discrimination either if they don't allow anyone to wear that styIe. Schools are allowed to set dress code.

Yes it can. For example: The Military, gotta keep your hair cut short...
Well they've been around for thousands of years and Im'm sure they will stay around for a long time also. What does that have to do with anything? The pageboy haircut has been around for a thousand years. Does that look good? Cultural differences. Braids are acceptable in pretty much most of the world. Africans, Native Americans, Asia, etc. I've been expposed to braids my whole life and from personal experience just like any hairstyle it depends on the person wearing them. When you claim that they are stupid when it's been a common hairstyle for a big portion of the world for thousands of years just makes you seem stupid.[QUOTE="Marth6781"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]Cornrows? there was a boy in my school who had a nike tick done at the back of his head so the head teacher sent him home. i believe schools do have rules regarding pupils hair.
It depends on what the school's exact rule was.
If it is against all braids in general for male students, then that could be considered part of the school's dress code.
If it was specifically against cornrows, then yes, it is discrimination.
