Let this be a lesson to you all. Memorize that periodic table, OR ELSE ...

BBC: Teacher held after pupils injured

Excerpt:

A science teacher has been arrested on suspicion of an assault on a boy of 14 and two other pupils at a Nottinghamshire school.

The boy is said to be in a serious condition in hospital following the incident at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield. Science teacher Peter Harvey, 49, is being questioned by detectives. Det Supt Adrian Pearson said it was "a very serious assault" and there were a "number of witnesses".

Police said the incident took place at the school in Broomhill Lane on Wednesday. The boy was taken to King's Mill Hospital but transferred to Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham where his condition is described as very serious.

a teacher wouldnt just attack a student out of no where so he would have a reason behind it, probably the kids fault anyway but the law is on his side since teachers cant harm students

The violence was probably a bit excessive, but how much would you be willing to bet it was the trouble maker of the class?

So apparently a teacher who assaulted a student to the point he was seriously injured is more righteous than a student who's roughhousing.

Let this be a lesson to all students, don't mess around with your teachers :P I've seen a lot of teachers get really angry but don't do or say anything because they don't want to say or do anything harsh to the students. It makes me pity the teachers.

some kids need a good beat down for disrupting class. sure i think the teacher went too far but really society has taken away anything that the teacher can do to a child that doesn't listen or obey his commands besides calling for the police. (which would take several more minutes to get there and stay disrupting the class)

There are many societies where teachers do not beat their students, yet students maintain respect for teachers. Beating/assaulting is an option for the weak-minded.

Self-defense on the teacher's part is another possibility ...

School Power to Search for Knives

Schools in England have been given the legal right to search pupils who are suspected of carrying knives.

oh i agree. it's the parents responsibility. sadly in the US they aren't holding up that end very well (could be due to less free time with wages standing still thus working more for less compared to the past). What gets me also is that some parents will blindly take the child's side over the teachers because they get defensive about their parenting.

but i can see how a teach could crack since there are kids that will keep disrespecting them in there own classrooms and there's nothing the teacher can do about it but take the abuse.

Lack of interest more like it. People work less hours than they did way back when the country was founded and they kept an eye on the kids.

Kid would've no doubt instigated the situation. I know of someone who got a whole desk thrown at him when he was in school, but he's a bit of a prick so its no surprise.

i'm not talking about 1800's. i'm talking about the 30-70's where a blue collar worker could support a family without the wife needing to work and buy a house and car. one parent was usually there to watch over the kids doing homework etc. good luck with that today. there are only a few good blue collar jobs that will make good money these days. (mostly union stuff) and they are disappearing more and more.

Whether you work or not...you should teach your children. It's a lack of parental supervision that is that problem.

I hope people understand that this is the kind of school that children are well discplined in.. Its a academy where people send their children from great distances to go to.... Seeing as the teacher was uninjured, and a student is in critical condition, it awfully sounds like the student didn't do anything close to provoke the kind of response he got.

I don't find any reason for neglecting parenting justified. I'm a single parent. I work...but my child is disciplined when needed.
