What religious debate? I'm religious myself and have no issue with this, nor do I see any reason to have an issue with this. >_>

yes but you know there are those OTers out there that will claim these experiments "un-godly"

plus out of body experiences have been claimed to support that their is such thing as a soul, know that we can control it...well...

This is a different kind of out-of-body experience. . . .religious experiences typically don't involve becoming part of a physical body besides your own.

So does this mean that people can stop using out of body experiences as argument against naturalism? That would be great.

Not really, as religious OBE's are different from this.

This is less an out of body experience and more tricking the body into thinking it's experiencing something it's not. A true out of body experience is when you can no longer have the feeling of any body, not just a different one.

Hey, remember that scene in The City of Lost Children where the fat cyclop kills the others? That's what this experiment reminds me of.

I like when science figures things out rationally instead of just jumping to conclusions. The science of the brain is only going to get better in the coming decades... and hopefully soon, we will be able to treat psychological diseases more effectively and give people the lives they deserve.

Where this was like a person inside another body that could be consciously controlled, religious experiences typically involve moving without control either without a body or in a body identical to the one they have before the experience. In addition, in a religious experience, people almost always see religious figures, such as Jesus or Muhammad, where this experience was like looking in a mirror.

Like someone else said, this is more like tricking your brain than a genuine OBE, but it's still cool.

They may have had this conscious control in this situation because it was a controlled experiment. Perhaps what simply makes an OBE religious is if the person experiencing it believes it to be. It could be that their religious belief is affecting the subconscious, much like how people dream about things that have happened to them in real life. I wonder if scientists could trick the brain in to seeing Jesus... That'd put a lot of noses out joint.

While very interesting, this doesn't really have anything to do with out-of-body experiences in the commonly used sense of the term. When people report floating above an operating table when they're undergoing surgery, I don't think that's actually the result of special goggles and a mannequin. :P

Nonetheless, yeah, I wanna try this out now. :(

I don't believe in Santa Claus.:| And what is "The Dumb"?

Yes, because using head mounted tv screens to show oneself from anothers point of view COMPLETELY refutes the possibility of the existance of souls. All hail science.

That's kinda...When you go to shake "your" hand, you'd be shaking the air if the other person doesn't shake your hand. I don't know, it doesn't seem like its that "foolable".
