The technology could lead to personal medicine dispensers that can be operated from one's own home. Researchers at Glasgow University used a type of 3D printer to create the drug molecules, in the future such technology could make it possible to diagnose and produce a cure for illnesses on demand. "We could use 3D printers to revolutionise access to health care in the developing world, allowing diagnosis and treatment to happen in a much more efficient and economical way than is possible now," said Professor Lee Cronin who headed the research team. link

top comment on engadget speaks truth "Headline is SUPERRRR misleading. "the group's devised an efficient method that makes use of commercial-grade three-dimensional printers to create "reactionware vessels": custom-designed, polymer gels that house and aide in chemical reactions." There are no drugs being printed here, only polymer gels. HELLO!?"

This is were the Uk comes into it's own. We give away Tv's, Antibiotics and Internet to the world without patents instead of selling it to large companies.

Really? I didn't knew they were prevalent at all. Though it must be of the lower tier.

The current 3D printers I know of can only produce "ceramic type" duplicates of tools with rudimentary moving parts.

I've been hearing about this technology and I am really interested to see it in action. If there's a video anywhere for that, it would be much appreciated.
