Scientists have found alien life, but the images will take awhile to get to us because of the way space works. We'll see these wonderful creatures in 20+ years!

So they didn't find alien life, they WILL FIND alien life. Title is a bit misleading...

Still cool, I would not believe for a second we are alone in our universe.

They already found it. The pictures are just going to take years to send because of how fast light can travel. Read the article.

A researcher for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence says humanity will detect aliens by the year 2040, LiveScience.com reports.

'I think we’ll find E.T. within two dozen years using these sorts of experiments.'- SETI’s Seth Shostak

That’s because, by then, astronomers will have scanned enough star systems to detect alien-produced electromagnetic signals.

I don't see how that would help
EM waves are still bound by space, time and the speed of light
If we find a way around that barrier, then we're getting somewhere

Sucks we won't be young enough(most probably dead for many centuries lol) to travel to alien home worlds or fight in intergalactic wars with the most threatening of them. :P

This is actually very interesting AND convincing for once. Their theory and timeframe seems very capable. It's gonna be a freaky day when the time eventually comes.

Or maybe they're salarians and turians from Mass Effect, but who am I kidding that's highly unlikely. Intelligent? Hmm, possibly.

Stop being deliberately stupid. Article says they expect that they should find something within that time. How about you think about what you're even claiming? If it's gonna take 25 years to get the pictures, how would anyone already know what these pictures will show?

Pretty sure you're just trolling. If not, you're obscenely stupid, even by internet standards.

"Shostak believes one in five stars has at least one planet where life might be possible – a “fantastically large percentage” that means there are potentially tens of billions of Earth-like worlds in the galaxy."

Sometimes I am in sheer awe of our universe and it's astounding size.

Yeah... I'm not so confident that it will be that soon. The article says

"That’s because, by then, astronomers will have scanned enough star systems to detect alien-produced electromagnetic signals."

To me, that is not good enough evidence to say that it's intelligent life. It's similar to people saying... "What is that in the sky? I don't know! Therefore it must be aliens form a distant world."

I am not so confident in our ability to find other life so soon. Remember, science is made of many if's, maybe's, but's, possibly's, etc.

I read the article. Scientists did not discover alien life. I even ventured to SETI Institute's site and they have no articles claiming to have found life. If so, the astrobiology community would be gung-ho about this and I could very easily access these published papers. Also, once these findings become reality, you'd expect world wide (and very fast) circulation of this information and you could easily link us to more credible academic resource than a 1 page article on Fox News online. Regardless, the article did give me a little excitement.

What this article is essentially saying is from the progress made in astrobiology and astronomical research, it has been extrapolated that scientists will find life in approximately 26 years. How they came to that number, I'm not sure. However, technology and discovery just in general is increasing at an almost exponential rate, which is tremendously exciting. Skeptical about their approximation, yes, but not super skeptical.

sounds like you didn't find whats on pretty much every news site. Alien life is here, in 2040. I wish the scientists would work on better ways to send pictures across space. From what I understand is the machines we sent to mars are there from a long time ago when we had dialup. If we could get cable internet on those machines we wouldn't have to wait so long.

My curiousity can't wait until 2040! show me the money!

It's the next step in human evolution.
