I'm currently heading into my 2nd year of high school (no idea how I even passed, I do bad in school :S). Anyway, for some reason I'm more nervous than when I went into my 1st year. Is it because I know what the teachers are like and I don't like some of them? Any tips for me? :)

We have no idea why you would be more nervous. All I can say is try and relax and just have fun. It should be one of the better times of your life.

You think 2nd year is scary? Im going into my 3rd year, and Junior is known to be the most important cause of ACT's. Tips...... just do your work and pay attention. Its not hard to get good grades (Decent), as long as you pay attention in class then your fine(well for me).

Junior is by far the hardest. Not sure about most important.

Meh I didn't enjoy High School too much. College is way better. All the idiots have dropped out and the girls are hotter.

I'm in my second year as well, in fact this is my seventh day of school...and I'm completely stressed out D:

from personal experience: do not sign up for AP classes + sports + leadership + speech/debate + many clubs all at once...they'll kill you

I pulled off Ap and sports and piano, but then again I didn't go to any parties or anything... still, I have no regrets

I'm going into senior year. Personally, I can't wait :D

But 2nd year is the 2nd most important year. You should be nervous. It also sets you up for junior year, which is your most important year. But still, in the grand scheme of things, it is completely unimportant. Hope I didn't confuse you.

Ya I did horrible my first year too actually. Failed 3 or 4 classes and was lucky to get a c. However that changed for me my second year. I got almost straight A's. Maybe the same will happen for you ? good luck.

The transition from middle to high school tends to be tough. I had a few freinds who got absolutely horrible GPAs (like 2.4 and less) in freshman yearbut gradually improved as time went on.

Just relax. If you're a bit of an anxious person, you might just feel nervous until you get back into the swing of things. For the first two weeks of school for all 3 years I did public highschool (8-10) I threw up every morning as a nervous reaction. You'll do fine :) Just focus on the good and ignore the bad.

Dont worry about it, 2nd year should actually be easier than 1st year due to the fact that the jump in difficulty from middle to high school is fairly great, while there is next to no chnage in difficulty from freshman to sophmore. Just do your homework, study for the tests, and you should be fine. Junior year is the hard year (and most important imo), with you having to take IB (or AP for those in US) classes, and let me tell you that IB classes are hard (AP's are quite easy though for the mos part, harder than regular courses but easier than IB so if u have the choice, do AP). Most importantly, just have fun and take it easy, cuz Junior and Senior year will be hell (but afterwards, college is amazing!)

I live in Canada and it made sense.

As for TC, 2nd year isn't too demanding. I slept through a couple of the boring classes and still managed fairly good grades.

Junior year was extremely difficult. Sophomore year wasn't too terrible -- you'll be fine. Pay attention, take notes, study, and you'll do great! :D Also, don't be afraid to ask teachers questions outside of class. They appreciate it, and you'll regret not asking when you blow a test.

Chances are you'll be absolutely fine. And after Sophomore year you'll be a Junior which means you are another step closer towards graduation. I remember how great graduation felt. So just study hard, work hard and then you'll end up in a good college and be set basically.

Trust me you'll do a-ok 8)

He means that in Grade9 his friends had bad grades (a 2.4 at UofT is like 60%, im guessing that would translate to 60% in a Canadian HS, not sure though, but dude Canadian HS's are fairly easy, at least judging by the fact that many people who came into Uni with 90%+ averages have trouble doing decently and even sometimes getting the average grade of 70%) but then as time went on, as they went to Grade10 and 11, their grades improved. Also if Im not mistaken, dont only your grade 11/12 marks matter in Canada?

You don't have anything to be nervous about. You don't really do much in 10 grade but I guess that depends on your class schedule.

Yeah I'd imagine the first semester Grade 12 marks matter, but then 2nd semester does not matter or matters very little. Getting into a University in Canada seems to be fairly easy, just do well in Grade 11 and 12 and you are in. Of course staying in is a whole another story, especially at the top 3 Uni's.

No offense, but I do really bad, but not so bad I fail. Like I'm able to slack off in the beginning of a class in a year then easily bring it up in the middle, but then it usually drops at the end. :(

It's my third and last year of secondary school and I'm pretty scared - we've got those important exams sometime in April and if I don't do well on them I'll waste next 3 years in some ultra bad high school with pile of idiots instead of good one. :( Oh. And my lesson plan totally sucks.

haha yaa that was me too right when i hit 7th grade it went downhill. I moved too so it made a big difference but if they have community colleges or whatever (the easy colleges to get into) you shouldn't be too worried. Of course if you do want to pick it up to get into a really good college it's now or never right?

True that. I'm going to admit, I'm a little ashamed, but in grade 9 video games kind of kept me off my work. :( This year it won't happen. :)

[QUOTE="dan0314"][QUOTE="bluetadomonk"][QUOTE="dan0314"] I dont mean to offend you, but pretty sure that everyone got at least B in elementary school, if not higher. A lot of people generally say "I could get an A if I wanted to", and to a certain extent it is true in a High School setting, but at the same time it does not work out that way, Anyway why dont you get straights B;s and As then? (average mark is a B ussualy right? So get a B). Simply put, put more effort into your life because in this society grades matter. Without decent grades, you simply cannot get into a decent Uni and get a Bachelors degree. Without a degree, well your potential lifetime earnings are considerably lower than those of someone w/ a degree.

[QUOTE="jonathant5"][QUOTE="zeldaluff"]

Damn a 50 and she got into 2 programs? It was probably a community college like Langara right? Cuz I cant think of any place, even Guelph or Ryerson (these are the 2 schools I have heard the worst things about, dont know how true it is) would not accept em. Cant imagine that she'd manage staying at the Uni long unless if she turned her life around and started putting some effort into what she was doing. Hell Ive heard rumors that some programs have almost 50% dropout rates, which is just ridiculous.

Well i know i say it because i have gotten near 100% on finals which i got a D in the class for. I'm going into finance (stocks, currencies, commodities, futures) I'm starting up again this month but i don't want to get my business degree (4 years) by then i am 22, get into a firm ex: goldman sachs. become an analyst for 2-4 years working 60+hours every week to finally be able to be on the trading floor. While it is true without a degree for most they will earn less then everyone else there are always people like actors, painters, photographers, chefs, who really don't need a college degree if they're that serious in what they are pursuing. With the internet today we can learn everything a school teaches us and more in a shorter time cutting out all the BS But of course if i want to be a veterinarian or doctor i'll need a degree.

Hell Ive heard rumors that some programs have almost 50% dropout rates, which is just ridiculous. jonathant5

Oh yeah, it wasn't uni. She was accepted to Seneca and Centennial College. And tbh, I don't think she's going to get her act together soon, not until she gets rid of her boyfriend.

Man it didn't seem so long ago that I was in 10th grade. Now I'm off to college and feel old :P Wonder how the parents of OT feel.

Generally you will need that piece of paper. Yes you can learn everything from the net and just by reading books, hell thats how I learn (I find most lectures to be a bit useless), but fact of the matter is that without that piece of paper (or well if you say you have no degree), HR departments at many if not all companies wont even look at your Resume and will simply throw it into the trash. There are exceptions to this rule of course, such as actors and stuff, but given how hard it is to become an actor in hollywood and how so few people actually make it, its not really something that will work for 99.9% of the population. As for working at GS, good luck with that, but do note that not only will you need to have a lot of interest and passion in IB, but you will need to be attending a fairly respectable institution (top 50 uni in world), have either amazing grades (3.8ish GPA) or have ok grades (3.5ish) but have an amazing resume and have great experiences (or some connections). I know this cause my friend interns there and he well knows the process and has talked to me about it quite extensively.

Don't know why you'd be so nervous. Every year in high school was the same to me lol.

High school was not fun for me. If you weren't some prep or jock with good social skills (like me), you were pretty much nothing at my high school.

It's sophomore year, it's fairly easy. You have nothing to worry about. LZ71

Yup, be nervous about it next year, not sophmore year. I'm a junior right now, and I know this is going to be the toughest year for me, 4 AP's, ACT, SAT, community service, apply for colleges/universities..

why does Guild Wars 2 have to come out during my Junior year?
