$400 for headphones. At that point I think you could save a few bucks and get something else AND some good headphones, both companies make good headphones.duxupDon't listen to this. $400 will get you great headphones, and if you truly love listening to music and already have a good amp and source, they are well spent $400.

Do you have an amp? What kinds of music do you listen to?Neon-TigerYou missed off that it'll have to be high quality to be worth it, there's no point getting top end grados for listening to low quality mp3s

TC you'll want to have your library ripped in a lossless codec (FLAC and the likes), as it will sound much better than low bit-rate MP3, etc.
why used cant it be new?Kill_My_SelfBecause those go far over your budget if you get them new. Was just keeping that in mind.
so no sennheiser?Kill_My_SelfGrados are honestly better for rock than Sennheisers. Also, Sennheisers are more demanding when it comes to amps. Don't make the same mistake as me. I was once in doubt between getting Sennheiser HD595 or Grado SR225, and opted for the HD595 because they are better for gaming. Problem is I stopped gaming a few weeks after getting them, and I listen mainly to rock like you. And now I'm saving to get the Grados too :(
oh yeah i said UE Triple Fi.10 Pro becuz i might want something some for tripsKill_My_SelfHmm can't help with those, I don't know much about IEM (in ear monitors, that kind of small headphones that you plug into your hear). But I do know that the Grados are low impendance and so they won't suck much battery from your portable device.
lol i do game but i never have listened to the game music i always listen to regular musicKill_My_SelfWhen I was talking about gaming I was reffering specifically to positioning, that is, in first player shooters (Counter Strike, Call of Duty...) how easy it is to tell your surroundings by listening to the sounds. With the Sennheisers you can easily hear where shots are being fired from, if there is someone creeping up behind you (footsteps noise) and that kind of environmental sounds, not the game music :P

"5.1 Headphones" are gimmicky overpriced crap.
I know that Grados + Rock music = win. I honestly can't speak for the UE since I never tried them nor read opinions on them other than what Khoaki.Neon-TigerI have the revise one. bought them last year. I also have a pair of super fi pro 5 which is lower end than 10 but still consider pretty good and let me tell you they don't hold a candle even to my sr80. the only thing they have over grado is portability
Thats why i want UE Triple Fi.10 ProKill_My_SelfI can tell you those Ultimate ears are pretty spiffy. I don't know if they stack up with the high-end grados you could get, but in terms of portability and performance, and the fact that they're easy on your battery life, they're a good decision. I wouldn't fault you for bypassing the Grados. Like Neon said, they're great for rock music, but I find they're more of an "inside" kind of headphone set. *shrug*
You can sort of disregard my recommendation of the UE super.fi eb since you listen to more of rock. I think that these pair are more suitable for the hip-hop and techno audience because they produce huge beats. The best part about them is that they can output massive and clear bass while keeping the quality of mids and highs. With that said though, the overall performance probably doesn't match up with the UE Triple.fi 10/Grados since those are best for balancing every altogether.
My final say is that if you enjoy pure sound quality, go for either the Triple.fi 10 or Grados, but if you're a bass lover, you'll find that those headphones will definitely lack in that category and so I'll tell you now that the UE super.fi 5 eb won't disappoint.
