I have been on the fence for months. Not really wanting something else being drafted out of my checking account. I am sick of television and commercials though. I cant even stand turning the TV on anymore except to watch Breaking Bad.

I spend probably 6 hours a day watching movies and all the video stores within 20 minutes of here have shut down. I just really need someone to sell me on Netflix.

How good is it? Whats the service like? How are the turn around times on shipped movies? Do they keep their stream, DVD and Blu-Ray selections up to date with weekly releases? etc etc etc.

I get bored alot and usually i just want to chill out and watch something without having to rely on AD ridden non premium channels or the same 3 movies over and over on HBO. I stream alot of TV and free movies but the selection is obviously limited.

Thanks in advance.

I love netflix. I have the best plan, where you can have 3 movies at a time, and unlimited streaming movies. I highly recommend it, very cheap as well

I've got the $9.99 (I think that's the price) plan and I love it.

From the time I stick the envelope in the mail, it usually takes about two days for me to get my next movie. My only real complaint is that their instant play selection kind of sucks. Most of the movies are incredibly old, and they rarely (if ever) get movies that were just released on DVD. It's not their fault, because of the way the industry is run, but it's still a negative in my opinion.

The biggest use that I've gotten out of it so far is watching shows that are on the premium channels like HBO. Since I started subscribing, I've watched Rome, Dexter, and I'm currently watching Deadwood. I've also got a bunch of other shows on my queue list.

I can't really comment on how quickly new releases get put up, honestly, because not too many movies come out that I'm actively interested in seeing. The rare ones I am, I just watch in the theater and if I end up liking them enough I just buy them whenever I happen to see it in a store. The service itself is great. Turnaround for movies is typically two days. If you're watching 6+ hours a day, that means you'll burn through the three at a time service each time, so you'll usually have one day of movies followed by one day of nothing. However, they do have a fairly good selection of movies/shows available for instant watch. It kind of depends on your taste level - of the 1324 things I've rated on Netflix so far, I have 174 in my "Watch it Again" instant-watch. Granted, that's including things I've given 1-3 stars, but the first three of the six pages are 5 and 4 starred items. Anyway, as far as I'm aware the first month of Netflix is a free-trial, so give it a go. First thing I'd recommend doing - try and go through and rate pretty much everything that you can remember having seen before. In my opinion, you get the most out of Netflix by trying out its recommendations. Sure, I've seen some pretty bad stuff, but usually the Netflix recommendations aren't too far off target. On the other hand, I've seen quite a few shows/movies that I probably wouldn't have watched otherwise, and ended up loving, because it was recommended.

My grandfather had it for a while, turnaround was quick (send the movie in Monday, get the next one Wednesday). Seemed to work well, especially if you watch a lot of movies, cannot beat their selection.

I dropped my cable service about a month ago and got Netflix and I have to say I've never been more satisfied. Between the instant movies I can watch on the website and the DVDs I get sent to my house, I get to watch way more movies now then I used to. Not to mention that with sites like Fancast and Hulu, I can keep up with all my favorite shows. Just get the free trial and you'll never want to go back to Cable.

I have the one at a time plan for Blu-Ray at $12 a month. I can also watch stuff over the PS3, but their online selection is garbage.

That was going to be my next question. Do the service packages cover both PC usage and PS3 usage? Also how is the scaling when pulled to full screen on a high def display? I havent streamed anything with the PS3 so im not sure if it would have scaling or anything that might make it look better than using my computer.

I love Netflix... They have a decent instant watch collection (which is also watchable on all 3 consoles and other devices if you prefer watching it on TV). Fast delivery... maximum wait is at least 2-3 days. Most of the time it's of course like if you sent back one on Monday, get a new one on Wednesday. But, yeah.... I got it a year ago and never regretted it.

I meant like do you have to purchase different plans to stream to a console and a PC or would your netflix plan be accessible on both for one price. I really have no idea how it works. Probably could have done some leg work before asking here.

Streaming is included in all plans except one I believe. The only thing you have to pay extra for is Blu-Ray... I believe.

I actually didn't know you could stream movies to your PC.

But no, you don't have to pay a separate price. As far as I know, the only extra cost you would have to pay is if you wanted to stream directly to your TV without using a PS3, Xbox360, Wii, or PC. In this case, you would have to purchase a hardware device that they sell. I think it's about $90-$100.

Yeah... I was thinking about getting it.. but I think they charge like 5 or 6 extra dollars a month... eh. With that price, I could get a higher DVD plan. I can live without Blu-Ray. :P

Thanks tons guys. Anything less than the 3 at a time deal is going to leave me starved. Im not so concerned about the online selection. I have been living off of free streaming sites for a while so it has to be better than what im use to.

$16.99 a month actually doesnt sound that bad considering how many movies im going to churn through in a month.

:D

Netflix is definitely worth it. You can rent 20 or 25 movies in a month for the price of renting like 3-4 from a video store, and the movies are delivered right to your house.

I don't even watch TV anymore. I have Netflix and Xbox Live movies (Zune Marketplace). Also Hulu and Joost for anything else.

When I finally get around to moving out I will probably not even get cable. Just Internet and Netflix bill.

Netflix is probably better than you think. Turn around is about as fast as you can get by mail. I mail it on Monday, they ship my next movie on Tuesday and I get it Wednesday. The selection is very awesome, and there's only been a handful of movies I couldn't find on Netflix. Brand new movies have a bit of a wait list, but most tend to get shipped by the months end.

Streaming is very good, but can be a bit of a hassle. First off unless your pc is your media center, or you have a 360/ps3/other thing you can't watch streaming on your TV. Streaming content expires, and doesn't really have a great warning system like Hulu. I've had a few times when things just seemed to dissapear, or like 16 things on my Q were set to expire in a month. Still the amount of content on Netflix streaming is pretty surprising when it comes to movies, and TV is decent also. Considering that the mail service is worth the monthly fee the streaming service makes subscribing even better.

I think im in love. After further investigation i found that they had a distribution center 15 minutes from my house so i should get next day on my shipped movies. Even better than i thought.

Streamed a TON of stuff last night. Some Dexter, Bones, a few old cheesy horror movies and then a Documentary on MT Everest for good measure. All without getting up except to get more drink.

I was worried about using wireless streams to the PS3 but after everything i watched last night it didnt skip a beat. Not once. The HD content they had looked spectacular as well. Definitely better when going through the PS3 as opposed to watching it through the computer when ran in full screen.

Best money ive ever spent. Should have done it a long time ago.

And i havent even gotten my first queued titles yet. So happy :D

i've had netflix for the past 3 years or so and it is a great service. i have the plan w/ 3 dvds out at once, unlimited dvds per month.. so basically as fast as you can watch them they'll send you new ones. the turnaround time from when you send a disc back to when you get a new one is only a few days ( for me at least ). plus i can stream movies to my tivo and wii now as a netflix member which is also a great thing.

I really love Netflix. I don't have ANY movie channels and the smallest DishNetwork package, and its great.

Can't you sign up for a free trial?

You can get streaming with a one movie plan I believe (it used to be only available for 2 or more).

Also, I stream through the Wii and the quality is close to DVD I kid you not. Zero lag while watching the movie too. (There is some when you go try to select a scene though).

Plus you can cancel and switch plans without penalty. While they don't have EVERYTHING available for streaming, there is more than enough.

Heck, when they lowered their costs, the automatically lowered it for us.

I just got Netflix a few months ago, and I really love it. I'm much more satisfied with it than I thought I would be. I got the 8.99 (or 9.99?) plan that allows me to have one movie on DVD at a time, with unlimited streaming (which I watch with my xbox). The one DVD at a time is enough for someone like me. What I really like is the instant watch though. I know that, as some probably mentioned, the selection isn't great. There are a lot of older and crappy movies on instant watch. But if you really dig deep, you can find some really great movies there. As someone also mentioned here, one of the best uses I get out of Netflix are its recommendations. Right now my instant queu is full of movies that Netflix has recommended to me. And, for the most part, the Netflix predicted rating system (it predicts what you would rate a movie) is pretty accurate. I was actually quite impressed by it. So, ya, I would definitely recommend Netflix to anyone. And they have a plan that would suit anyone's needs.

Oh, I didn't know it went by plan... thought that was the general price. But, they still add tax when billed generally, so... it still sounds a bit for me, but eh.
