i have to say, they're ok sometimes, when i was younger the blaire witch did freak me out a little ,yes the film that started the shaky cam genre and influenced all quarantine, Rec, cloverfield, diary of the dead

anyway......maybe i should watch the film again to fully comprehend some of it, i really never got why they suddenly dropped on the ground, the movie was quite creepy when i was younger probably because i was in maryland, the entire plot was just creepy and wrong, for a time i was afraid of going into woods in maryland because i thought the blaire witch was there and would make it so that no matter how far i walk in the woods, i would still come back to the same spot like in the film haha i dont think any of the other shaky cam films have provided me with that same effect, infact i think im gonna watch it right now !

I don't mind it...the first time I saw Cloverfield I was flying to Europe, the shaky cam coupled with the turbulence of the flight made it very intense.

Intense, as in tendency to vomit?

I remember Doom had a scene in it that was shot in a specific way, but better since you were actually seeing through the eyes of the character and not a camera.

Hate it.

It's okay when a scene or two really works well with it, but when a whole movie is shot in the style...it just throws out the chance for lovely montages and shot composition right out the window.

So far, the movies with that camera type are my favorites. Can't beat Blair Witch Projects, Quarantine (or REC depending on the version you saw, I saw both), and Cloverfield (yes, I enjoyed Cloverfield)

Sometimes it really annoys me while other times I don't mind it at all. It all just matters on whether or not it's used properly.

It gets a bit annoying sometimes. But when it is used well, like in Saving Private Ryan, then it is good.

(yes, I enjoyed Cloverfield)GTsFrieza
i did too, i liked the fact that before the movie released they hyped it up to make this gigantic conspiracy that i believe no other film bothers to really do except blaire witch, blair is the only other film i can think of that tried to pass it all as real, with cloverfield you had to keep your eyes open on the internet to fully understand the story, they leaked tons of videos that werent in the film, made tons of fake sites, fake slusho commercials, fake news broadcast, the cast would talk to each other on myspace leaving comments and what not, i thought it was hilarious that when the guy got ate up in the movie, his height on his myspace page went down to 2/or 3 feet, letting people know he did infact get bit in half, it really made people search every corner of the net to figure things out, i cant tell you how many youtube videos were made of guys trying to see if the monster was secretly in the poster even now hundreds of them are trying to find clues that are leading to 2....i think someone did upload a video of an australian news broadcast reporting something and then you hear something loud and something swims through the water and people scream it goes off.....there was also another video of a girl talking to her friend and something fell in the water like it did at the end of cloverfield

cloverfield 2 is already confirmed, i just hope its not lame

Does the Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum fall under this "shaky cam" category? The movies were excellent, but sometimes it was a bit hard to follow the action because the camera was constantly moving.

This. If film is a visual medium, why try and make it hard for people to see what's happening?

You have the best avatar ever, by the way.

It works well sometimes, but not in cinemas so much. It's a little bit too overwhelming with so much motion on a huge screen, but on a TV its fine. Sometimes I prefer to see action from a more stationary camera though, because you see more of what's actually happening. It works well in films like Cloverfield, but when they put it in random action scenes in other films, I'm not such a big fan.

I don't like it. All it does is make me feel sick. Same goes for the 3d movie phenomena which I can't even watch due to the glasses hurting my eyes.
