I have to get my wisdom teeth taken out Wednesday. I've been procrastinating it for a good year, but the sudden pain last night was just too much.

Anyone have any stories? I've heard both good and bad (mostly bad). Did you wake up during your surgery? Were your cheeks swollen like a chipmunk? Did you stay at home and binge on ice cream? Do tell.

Sorry to hear bro. Hope everything goes well. No experience here but might have to get them taken out in the near future. Last dentist visit he did notice some issues but if it didn't continue it'd be fine. we'll see.

I just had local anesthesia (novacane) so I was awake during the whole thing. 3 of my wisdom teeth came out fine, but on the 4th one he had to keep pulling it back and forth and he struggled with it. It didn't really /hurt/ but the pressure was really fvcking annoying. On the bright side the week of vicodin afterwards made it all worth it.

All I really remember is swallowing a ton of blood afterwards then puking it back up. About two weeks after the procedure of my sockets got infected and I had to get that taken care of... Major pain in the ass

This is what I'm doing. The idea of going under freaks me out.

Oh, and three are getting removed; two are impacted.

Even though I did wake up during the surgery, I still don't regret it. Made the surgery go by way faster.

Well like I said the extraction itself doesn't really hurt. The pressure is a weird, somewhat unpleasant feeling though.

I don't think the post-extraction pain is too bad as long as you stay on top of things with whatever painkiller you get.

My sweet purdy mouth is too little for all them teeth.

They put the mask thingy over my face and told me to count to 10. I remember counting to 2, and then waking up on the couch back home with gauze in my mouth. Apparently, I was walking around after the surgery and being quite the life of the party, but that's all second-hand info. I don't remember any of it.

Lots of ice cream, jello, and pudding.

I didn't rinse as much as I was supposed to so the holes in my mouth got infected, resulting in an additional 2 weeks of discomfort.

I had mine taken out about two years ago. I had one coming parallel to my molar. Afterwards, it was pretty painful. Watched a movie, but because I was so doped up, I didn't remember any of it. Ended up watching that movie a second time and it was like watching it for the first time.

Never had mine taken out, I had some pain when they came in and I haven't felt much since. Of course I haven't been to the dentist in 5 years so I don't know if everything went according to expeditions but whatever.

I removed mine a few years ago... Although it was far from the simplest job. When I got my first two removed, surgeon needed advice from another one, as they simply wouldn't go out. Some 40 minutes on each tooth was enough. :P I had local anaesthesia. It was something being awake the whole time.

Other than chiping a tooth slightly by chewing on a watch, I've had no problem with my teeth.

Still got mine in, my lower ones havnt come in yet due to them being too big so the dentist reckons i will need to get them pulled sometime this year or i'll have problems.

My upper ones came through but their abit sideways so they'll have to come out aswell, i sometimes get pain but hopefully i can hold out until another 3-4 months after most of my uni work is done and i can afford to take some time off.

Not really that exciting. I had mine taken out before they were grown in. Was knocked out the whole surgery so it was painless. I was on a lot of drugs for the next couple days too so I mostly just slept and ate soft food, wasn't really feeling pain or anything. Only real problem was I played trumpet at the time and had to skip practice until my stitches fell out, lest I blow them out with the air pressure. Wasn't playing for at least a couple weeks.

Not a big deal for me overall, and it kept my other teeth healthy and aligned.

The first day I felt fine. Next day I puked and passed out. Could only nibble a few bites from Wendy's Burger 1 week later and resorted to the Chili side order. :D Was able to eat 'decently' at about 2.5 weeks later.

Remember this - people are much more likely to complain and post about it if they have a bad experience. This surgery is performed millions of times a year, and for most, it's uneventful, along with the recovery. Just follow your surgeon's instructions and air on the side of being too careful in protecting the blood clots during the first three to four days, and you'll probably be one the majority for which it's a non issue.

I had it done twice, first for my left ones, then two years later for my right ones. I was conscious during the procedure, and it was uneventful both times. I only required a painkiller pill once every six hours for the first two or three days. I went easy on my gums for about 2 weeks, eating mostly ice cream and other soft/liquid foods. Being that I really like ice cream and sherbert, it wasn't a problem for me.

It felt like I was being punched in the face since it was hard taking out my bottom two. Took over an hour and half to get all 4. I looked like a blowfish afterward and there was lots of drool. >.>

They'll numb you up hardcore, and rip em out. Simple as that. I went home looking like a hamster that just shoved a bunch of bedding in my mouth.

Worst part is that you'll need to restrain your food choices. You'll be ok though :)

I don't have any coming through yet. I mentioned it to my dentist and I think they said I have some hiding but I don't really know. If I get anything pulled I'm asking to be gassed so hard that I am as unconscious as one can be. I do not want to wake up while this is happening. I cannot be awake for it.
