I love them both. I have watched Shaun of the Dead around 10 times. And i've seen Hot Fuzz around 3 times. Shaun of the Dead has a really slow start, which is its main problem. I prefer Hot Fuzz.

Both really good movies, however, Shaun of the Dead I thought was a little more classic, so it wins by a nudge.

get both, Hot Fuzz is the best though.

"Danny Butterman: [agitated and defensive] He is not Judge Judy and Executioner. "

"Nobody tells me nothin'"

but these are by far the funniest quotes.

DS Andy Wainwright: You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.
DS Andy Cartwright: Everyone and their mums is packin' round here!
Nicholas Angel: Like who?
DS Andy Wainwright: Farmers.
Nicholas Angel: Who else?
DS Andy Cartwright: Farmers' mums.

Nicholas Angel: [having a crackdown on underage drinkers in the pub] Oy! When's your birthday?
Underage Drinker #1: 22nd of february.
Nicholas Angel: What year?
Underage Drinker #1: Every year!
Nicholas Angel: Get out!
Nicholas Angel: [to the second underage drinker] When's your birthday?
Underage Drinker #2: 8th of may... 1969...
Nicholas Angel: You're 37?
Underage Drinker #2: Yeah!
Nicholas Angel: get out!
Nicholas Angel: [turns to last drinker] When's your birthday?
Underage Drinker #3: [high pitched] Uhhhh...
Nicholas Angel: Out!

I saw both in the cinema and now own both on DVD and both are excellent and funny films. Overall I would say I prefer Shaun Of The Dead... maybe Shaun is more of a British thing becuase most Americans seem to say Fuzz was better...

Possibly one of the most beautiful moment in cinema history, seeing the old woman with a boot in her face. However, I think I prefer Shaun of the Dead overall...

hot fuzz for me

better cinmetography, more laughs, same witty dialogue as SOTD

great performance from Timothy Dalton and a more complex story

of course the uber geeks will prefer SOTD but thats because it a zombie film spoof and zombie films are held in higher regard than action films amongst the computer chair bound

there is no dount that ita a better piece of film-making film look on IMDB.com the evidence is there

Personnally I didn't really like Hot Fuzz much. It was very predictable and not to funny. Which is strange cause I loved Shaun of the Dead.

I found Shaun of the Dead really funny when I first saw it!

Hot Fuzz was disappointing...

Shaun Of The Dead doesn't take itself seriously, the whole idea of zombies attacking everything, and then two blokes just not being arsed about it is comical, the various things such as the throwing of the records in the garden, and Shaun climbing up a kidsslide to peer over the gardens is genius, plus I could honestly see myself ending up like them. I could probably memorise 3/4 of the film's lines as well, maybe even more. It's trully legendary, and I don't think HF has reached that status (maybe it will in time, because it is a pretty new film)

Hot Fuzz is a better film technically, it actually has some form of plot, and as far as the way it is shot, it's a lot more like a Hollywood blockbuster compared to the clearly independant style of SOTD, but as far as laughs? Well there are some brilliant one-liners, but it's far too serious. The first 30-45 minutes of the film is boring, and it pains me to watch it more than once because of that. The action when they clean up in the village is fantastic, but I'd rather be watching Shaun hitting a zombie on the head with a cricket bat. Plus it rips off a lot of SOTD, and not in such a funny way.

Shaun of the Dead was absolutely brilliant, but I'm going to have to go with Hot Fuzz - possibly because of the years I've spent watching endless British murder mystery TV shows, patiently waiting for an episode where the detective would just snap and violently assault the criminals.

those sunglasses they wear at the end of hot fuzz, i want a par of those

i prefer hot fuzz because is has just as much comedy (the accent of the police cheif when he says 'ill make sure they get their just desserts' and then keeps on eating, perfect timing and comedy) as shaun of the dead, but has more action. Battle of Somerfields was awesome too

It's just cheap pun, and the accent doesn't change at all....
