inb4 skynet reference.

The thing that scares me the most is the one about how many children are born. Overpopulation is the next global warming, if we don't address it soon by the time we finally agree that it's a problem we'll be past the breaking point.

I'd seen the New York Times fact before, but it still amazes me. It just shows how little new information an average person would actually come across in the 1800s.

Some of those stats were misleading (such as broadband internet penetration), as well as some "facts" (just because a computer has the computational power of the human brain doesn't mean it will be able to make any use of it. Computers have long been many, many times more powerful when it comes to just algorithmic calculations, yet humans still have many advantages). Overall though, I found that video to be an eye opener which, frankly, has me a little worried. By the time I'm 60-years-old all of my marketable skills will probably be useless. :(

Computers will become better then the brain in lots of things not just calculations (future robots) and also that cable in Japan that transfers that data is real.

It's possible that this indeed will be the case one day, but I seriously doubt that'll happen by 2013.

It's not "expoential times"... more like "logarithmic times" when you look at the number of years for devices to reach 50 million: 30, 20, 10, 8, 5, 3, 2, 2

I thought this was going to be about Dilbert and his attempt to invent a quantum computer. I can't believe I remembered that strip.

Yep, they showed it in one of my classes. That was a while ago, I wonder if it's outdated. (or if they just keep updating it.) Edit: Never mind, I just read "3.0 for 2008 - Newly Revised Edition..." in the description. They do update it.

I've been pondering about things like this for about a year constantly, and every time I think about it, it's just "****ing A! I'm technophobic now."

Not at all... what you know now is foundation to what you will learn for the future. It is only useless if you stop learning. Continued education ftw!

I don't want any of it. Computer does all the thinking, where goes the mind of mankind? Internet so far has been international flaming, spam and pron. Not such a great recommendation to start. Too much technology getting in way anymore because we keep funding it. Consumer money spent is getting mistaken as our governmental voice. When they make a computer with zero fault, then I may get more impressed. Fix humanity before the machine which serves him.

What? The human species (nay, nature) has always had problems...and computers and/or technology in general have helped us alleviate or partially address many of them. The minds that belong to the vast majority of our species are what screw everything up. An Orwellian myopic dystopia to the rescue! The computers will control you! Quick, wrap yourself in tinfoil to protect you from technology. I will do the same to ward off God.

Crazy person, how else could I the best website in the universe(not maddox's page) without awesome Internet speeds? If anything the Internet is too slow, I want 1 gb/s WLAN. 15,30,60 mb/s is too low :)

You mean the "if you're 1 in a million then there's 1,300 people like you," thing? have you ever heard the phrase "you're one in a million" meaning you're really friggen different? They took China's population and showed that even if you were that different, there's still 1,300 people just like you.

That's "TOO SLOW" ? I have dialup!...sheesh... I live in my bomb shelter wearing a tinfoil hat- I can never hope to keep technology up for lack of money. Spend mine on medical coverage, mortgage, and paying elected officials. Maybe this computer will make them go away, and I get my taxes back? Otherwise I must become even more freakish to society and disappear like neanderthal...
