I have been experiencing this for about a year and a half. Sometimes it goes and sometimes it comes but when it comes I stress about it thinking it's cancer. Like I can breathe but I can't get that satisfying feeling whn I breathe. Little chest pain, and sometimes never but could this be cancer but I have been experiencing for a year and a half. I'm really scared I'm only 14 and I have a grad trip coming up in 4 days, and I don't wanna die before it :(

I'm not sure anyone has their MD on GameSpot. I'd recommend seeing your doctor. :)

It would be highly unlikely that you would have cancer at age 14. More common things that can cause shortness of breath in your age group are anxiety attacks. Infection can do it as well, but that doesnt last 18 months.

Like I don't think I have cancer. Nobody in my family history has cancer or anything. I think this is stress because I stress about having cancer. I go on the computer researching and all that I come up with is shortness of breathe is a serouis problem. Like it happens to me for 1 week then subsides for like 2 weeks then comes in bites me. Chest pain is non-existnet for all these months, just shortness of breathe.

It's always the same thing to, I stress about it...

Like when I'm doing something fun it goes away, but when I'm thinking about it is at its worst.

I've had the same exact thing that you're describing.

For me it happens a lot right before I go to sleep. Went to the doctor and he said it's probably anxiety because everything (heart/lungs/etc) looked fine. If I were you I'd probably still get it checked out though, shortness of breath isn't something to mess around with.

Sounds like Asthma.

Pain when you breath is is more of a muscle issue than pain in your lungs generally. Though, if its been an issue talk to your parents and see your family dr.

Most of the serious shortness of breath issues you read about, happen in older people. That's related to either heart disease or bad lung disease. Usually you will have other symptoms as well. I think this may be more a panic attack issue, but you may want to see your doctor to check it out. Most serious problems don't go away, but typically progress over time.

If you have had cancer for the past year and a half, you would probably notice more symptoms by now then just shortness of breath. Like others have said, you should see a doctor if you are worried.

It does sound like it could be asthma or anxiety (or both), though. Stress is a common asthma trigger. And when I get particularly anxious I often feel like I can't breath. Anxiety could also be why you worry about cancer a lot.

I think you should be ok then. If you're tall and thin, sometimes you can get this thing called a pneumothorax. Not the real bad kind. But that tends to be more painful and usually follows exertion. i just can't think of anything too serious for your age group that would give you shortness of breath. Pneumonia can, but you'd feel sick as heck with that. Fever, chills, weakness, etc. Cancer usually doesn't cause shortness of breath. Young people can get lymphomas, but they usually present differently. So i think you'll be fine. Good luck.

Allergies maybe? They can start up at any time, so it's worth getting tests done.

Well the reason why I haven't seen a doctor about this is because it comes for a week goes for 2 weeks then repeats itslef.

I used to have shortness of breath. It got so bad one night, I had to take a trip to the hospital. It turned out to be Sleep Apnea was the cause. Don't know about your specific case though - I'm not a Doctor.

you could have some mucus cloggin up your breathing airways.. try to do some deep clearing coughs and see if that helps.

ok. just looking statistically im going to say that you probably dont have cancer. lung cancer at your age is uncommon unless you are exposed to things that would drastically increase your chances.

other than that just off the top of my head. i think asthma could be a real possibility.

or youre just comsuming too many opiates......

but in all seriousness no one here can diagnos you. webMD cant diagnos you. i get a sore throat and that thing will tell me i have aids. go see your doctor. shortness of breathe is always a serious problem no matter what the cause. please see your doctor

Ironically I used to experience that, then it got worse, and I found out earlier this month that I had Pneumonia. This thing was building up for ages. Bad time to attack, during exam times. :(

Same exact thing for me as well. I'm fine physically so we figured it was just an anxiety attack but you never know so you should ask a real doctor. It's been happening to me for like 5 years now I think? And I haven't died yet :P

If you're only 14 I doubt it's cancer. Like everybody else said, just check with a doctor. It could be asthma, it could be nothing.

"Shortness of breath" could be one of a million different things. You should see a doctor to find out which one it is. However, I seriously doubt it's cancer. If it was you'd have a lot more health issues than just "short breath". Also, you're 14. 14 year olds don't get cancer very often.

sounds like your a hypochondriat, like me your mind controls your body and when you think of something bad for a long time your body will invent the symptoms when really theres nothing wrong.

ive been having the same problem. One doctor said it was due to inflammation in the chest. The other said its cause by muscle strain. I was given pain killers for he chest pain and another was a muscle relaxer.

The Doctor also did an X-Ray but didnt find anything alarming. Anyway, go to the doctor.

My first thought as well, and certainly not an uncommon thing to have.

Could be allergies or asthma. I suffered from allergies really bad most of my life but have been doing allergy testing the past 2 years and it helped significantly. Also, if you're not physically active I'd suggesting vigorous exercise 3-5 times a week. Definitely go see your doctor though.

I get them too, I am 18 and there called "stitches". Its not cancer I was getting them...even before I first started smoking, when I was 14, 15, and 16. Well I'm just a social smoker, never been addicted to Nicotine.
