I never liked him...but mainly because he's really scary looking...he should be allowed to say what he wants.  Isn't that what the first amendments there for?

most of the time...but not always.  not all speech is protected in america, but i believe in his particular case...it should have been.

He should've just gotten like a warning or probation period, because even though he did make racial remarks on the women's Rutgers basketball team, being fired in a very short amount of time IMO is pretty harsh.

The times when speech isn't protected are all typically cases that are really obvious...like screaming "Fire!" in a crowded place...The radio station hired him to speak out about his opinions and knew he was a shock-jock...they shouldn't have been surprised when he gave a "shocking" opinion

should have been as i stated meant should have been protected.  i worded my post poorly...we agree on the topic.  i was elaborating on your comment.  in short, imus should still be employed.

I think he should of been fired a while ago.

Also freespeech does not include employment especially if you are a public/media figure, and on the job.

This is by no means newsworthy or even postworthy.  He called them "Nappy-headed hoes".  He's not commenting on their race, he's commenting on their hairstyle.

This isn't the first racially controversial thing Imus has said, so it's surprising a white person could get away with it for so long.  But, unless they plan on firing all the african americans that they employ who also make controversial racial statements, such as most black comedians or rappers, then they are just being hypocrites.

He should've been suspended before, he's done a bunch of racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks in the past.  I think this was enough to get him fired, not on its own but with everything else.

Not only should he not have been fired, he shouldn't have been suspended! So what he called them nappy headed hos, they are nappy headed hos! Apparently blacks aren't offended or there wouldn't be rap music. With all of the things that have happened with Mel Gibson, Michael Richards, and now Imus; I think it's evident that people are making too big of a deal about what is said. In my opinion apologies should consist of the following and then the issue should be dropped: "I'm sorry I only offened a small amount of the population. I am equally prejudiced against all crackers, kikes, nig*ers, towel heads, chinks, wetbacks, and b1tches I am an equal opportunity a**hole." If needed there are plenty of other derogatory terms you can use.

I agree, but at the same time I think Don Imus is the last person to be commenting on someone/something's looks. I am glad to see Don Imus fired, but if Adam Corolla or Howard Stern was fired for the same reason, I would be unhappy. I just don't like Don Imus.

You listen to rap. Should rappers who use the word "ho" be banned from radio?

Should Hot 97 be shut down too?

The Rutgers team simply should have been bigger than him and forgiven him right away. He's an idiot. But they're idiots for not letting it go. People insult me all the time, I don't holde grudges for weeks and get a man fired.

he shouldn't have simply because he didn't do anything wrong.  He didn't go out and eat babies or anything.  Its all about morals.  Don't want to hear him talk on the radio?  Change the damn channel.

Yes, he should have been fired.

Without sponsors, CBS doesn't make money.  General Motors, Sprint Nextel, Staples, and a slew of other advertisers were pulling their ads from the show.

No. our society is turning into one where people can't say anything. What happened to freedom of speech. Yes, he didn't own the company that was supporting his show, but come on. Why does everyone run around looking for someone to make an example out of? The world neesd more compassion and understanding, and a willingess to help other people grow.

I do not condone what he said, but I don't think of him as a horrible person either. I don't think horrible of anyone, even those who do the most horrible things. People are prone to flaws.. because we design the rules we live by, and so many of them are flawed themselves.

Considering he is (well was) being paid to be a radio jockey, I think his rights end at the front door.

He called the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy headed ho's".  Apparently Nappy headed is racist slang... never mind that he said ho's, but he commented on a hair quality that's only found in African Americans.

If Al Sharpton has a huge problem with Imus than he has a huge problem with every High School in the country. The media is exploading this way more than it needs to.
