That and also should i feel embarresed about asking my mom about going to a dermontolist? I mean acne is common in teens and im 16 and i want to have a clear face by next school year.  So like should i be ashamed of myself and embarrassed toward my parents about telling them? I mean it is something i cant help.

Also my brother had really bad acne(worse then me) and went to a dermontologist and the doctor gave him some pills(i think minocycaline) and never had a pimple since(he is 18 now).

I dont have it REAL bad but its def. there, like moderate i guess...

Going to a dermatologist is a pretty common thing, especially for teenagers... There's nothing to feel embarrassed about. I'd go. Also, don't pick your face or you'll give yourself scars.

No you shouldn't feel embarrassed by it and if your brother went then your parents should be open to the idea. Its good to want to look your best. But at the same time, you don't need to feel embarrassed over something out of your control.

I went to a dermatologist when I was a teenager. He gave me stuff that really helped clear up my skin. It wasn't perfect in any regards but it was certainly better than before I went. Go for it, lots of teenagers do.

I'd go see a dermatologist. Don't feel embarrassed, and ignore the idiots who think acne has anything to do with health/diet and hygiene.

Actually a diet low in sugar and proper cleaning has been shown to significantly decrease breakouts. As a teenager you're still going to get them, but with proper hygiene and diet they won't be as bad.

Really? do you have a link which verifies that? I've only ever heard that acne was caused almost exclusively by hormones and that diet has little to no impact. Also, excessive cleaning can actually make acne worse - if you wash your face too often it dries out your skin, which then compensates by becoming more oily.

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you sure you're washing your face well? When I was in HS I got put on stuff for light acne and it didn't really do anything except dry my face out. The only thing that got rid of it was just getting older. At around the age of 20, it just stopped. You're always going to get zits as long as you have skin but age seems to be the best cure.

Well Web-MD clearly states that Bacteria is a cause of acne as well as hormones (and stress is an aggravater), cleaning to prevent bacteria build up in pores is obviously helpful. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/guide/understanding-acne-basics While not a direct cause lots of other places seem to think some food can aggravate acne symptoms and you should avoid those foods. Usually sugars. Again food isn't a primary cause but cutting down on sugars a lot of times helps people. Maybe not always but it's surely worth trying.

Your link also clearly states "Contrary to popular belief, acne isn't caused by a harmful diet, poor hygiene, or an uncontrolled sex drive."

Really anything in your pores causes acne. Acne is mainly the result of pores being irritated by something clogging it.

I've issues with acne and found that adjusting my diet did more than anything that I had tried. Sugary sodas, pizza, fast food, too much chocolate, etc. are bad news for my skin. Cut out all these foods for a few weeks and see if it helps. Eating healthier in general isn't a bad thing either.

Yes im ocd. i keep myself very clean, i wash my face morning and night but make sure i dont make my face too dry(really never had a problem with my face being dry anyways). I keep my hands clean during the day also and i rarely touch my face and i also eat better than most typical fat american teens...

If you want to solve it, man/woman up and go see a skin doctor. Also, clinique cover up is your friend.

You should never feel embarrassed about doing anything to improve yourself.  Especially these days where it's no longer taboo as a guy to do things like tanning, waxing, or getting a facial.  Acne is just a medical problem.  There didn't used to be much you could do about it but now there are all sorts of things that actually work.

So go tell your parents you want to see a doctor.

There are actually quite a few medical treatments that work these days that unfortunately weren't available when we were younger.

Don't feel embarrassed. It's better to treat it now than later or else you may get some scars from it.

I've had a significant improvement with the treatment I was given. The scars are finally fading away too but might get laser treatment to buff up my face. They aren't huge scars either that leave sinkholes so I'm a bit fortunate than most people.

Mine was caused by a hormonal imbalance so without it I'd have adult acne.

I had bad acne for quite a few years, after seeing my doctor I'm now taking Doxycyline and a gell called Differin. Making a great difference as it's pretty much all gone now. I tried cleaning my face more, nothing. Tried changing diet, nothing. Tried a few different anti acne products from the supermarket with no real results, was so glad when I finally talked to my doctor about wanting to do something. Don't make the same mistake I did, I should have done that years ago.
