Hey guys, this is a big decision but it comes best seeing other's opinions.

I am hard of hearing in my left ear, and I wear a hearing aid. I am completely deaf in my right. I started wearing a hearing aid around 13 or 14, my hearing gets lesser every day! I lost my hearing mostly to ear infections when I was first born, alot of pain it was, it tore up my nerves. I do put up with alot of bullcrap from school, because I am deaf, but I have many friends too who take up for me or else I fight back and get suspended for defending myself, you see how immature kids are in school. I have been tired of it, so I want to finally change! I have heard about the Cochlear Implant..but I don't like having a device in my skull but it seems like a good deal, it will let me hear..its been hard. Also, Stem Cell Research which they could replace my hearing with nerves, and I'll be like a normal person. But I can't do that in Alabama, where I live, because most people think it is 'against God's will' and it is now illegal to do that here. What are your opinions?

I think the more important issue here would be funding. I dont really think anyone is going to tell you to not do anything about it. Assuming you could afford it i say get the implant if its proven effective ( havent personally researched it ).

You will absolutely have to drag your healthcare provider through the mud and to the fiery pits of hell to get them to pay for something like this. Depending on who you have they simply wont.

Yeah, well right now I am 15. So, my mother says we could try and get one for free...we couldn't afford it though. I hope we can get it for free, or else we might need to go to another place, like GB because they have free medical expenses..U.S. needs socialism.

You seem extremely informed and intelligent for your age. I do wish you luck in getting it covered. Your parent(s) might have to switch healthcare providers to do so but with how much this probably costs coupled with how much it could improve your life its worth doing regardless of how much trouble it is.

Haha, well I would pay for it if I could. My life has been rough since my bad hearing prevents me from many things. I read, learn and listen the best way I can, thats how I get the info! :D I never wanted the implant but it seems like the only best way for now.

I do not understand why people think it is against 'Gods Will' to use Stem Cell Research and made it against the law? This could really help people, save lives and would be a great thing in all countries.

Just curious......... (my wife is an interpreter) she says that the deaf community is kinda split on the implant thing. Some like it some don't. Does that have any influence on your decision?.....and good luck regardless of what you decide.

It's up to you and how you feel about it, I would say go for it but i'm definately a man who supports doing whatever really helps you and whatever you want to do.

I have an aunt who has one in her one ear because that one was deaf and the other is a bit hard of hearing and its worked perfectly fine for her and has made things easier, she also even teaches children who are hard of hearing as well, just to tell you a more personal account of it...

Yes, there is a thing called Deaf Cult/Pride, there are some who prefer to be deaf and stay the way they are (be the person they were meant to be) because most of them are Christian, and they believed if they changed they wouldn't be themselves and are going against God's will. So in some states it is illegal for Stem Cell Research, some of the senators, mayors and people in the government believe the same thing. That is why we need a new president!

I think you should get whatever benefits you more. Good luck with your decision. And one last thing, anyone that bothers you about it again can answer to me personally. I can't stand immaturity about things like this.

There's a diffrence between stem cells, and EMBRYONIC stem cells.

the latter comes from embryos, the first comes from all of us.
one reasion why people denounce it so quickly, the assume it all deals with embryos.

I would probably get the implant, but it really comes down to your choice, I don't know much about it.
