I want to get out so bad, but I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. I mean, I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle it on my own. I'm 22 and I don't even have my own room! I can hardly do anything. I feel like my parents are holding me back (from growing?)

I work in a warehouse earning $10/hr. Is that enough to move out? (I live in Nevada, btw)

I can probably get a roommate but if possible I'd like to have the place for myself.

Any advice? Feel free to share your moving out stories.

Erm. I would try to find a job offering a little more money before you move out on your own. I say...don't rush it. Make sure you find a good steady job. Try to set a goal, like, moving out of your parents house before you hit 25 or something like that.

Make sure you got enough casy in your bank account before you move out, (you gotta think about rent, utilities, security deposit, etc.) Toss some money to your folks to help out with bills and food, plus it'll show them you appreciate their help and that you're not just mooching off of them. It's high time you left the nest, my friend.

lol yeahi did do it on purpose. dont ask me why. you know looking 4 names was really hard. so i thought of a name no one would use, so i mispelled fruitpunch and it came up to be a username no one has used before. so i took it. i never really thought of any consequences if i had named myself friutpunch.

If you got a steady job you feel pays the bills, then go for it. A roomate or buddy would really help too.

It just depends on your local economy and how much you can get for your money. The cost of living varies greatly state to state and city to city. I'm 24 and I moved out after I had got engaged to my wife at age 23 and we had purchased a house together. Now lucky for us the cost of living in our area is surprisingly low, we were able to get a nice starter house which was a repossesion (which are some of the best deals if you look hard enough) in a good sub-division for under 100K and our payments are under 500 a month which leaves room for car payments insurance utilities food etc. Having 2 incomes does help but I'm not telling you to get married, but payments like that can be cheaper then rent and you have equity in a house, which is something that you don't have if you rent.

You will have to just do your own research, sit down and figure out how much you can spend each month inevitably there will be things that you foget to account for so I will list some of the things that I pay per month

House Payment Electric Water Sewage Car Payment Car Insurance Cable Bill VoIP Groceries Gas Trash-Pickup

If you buy a home you will also have to pay home owners insurance and property taxes. If your going to Rent you should also consider renters insurance which would be cheaper then those but still a cost to factor in.

I will give credit to Susie Orman on this one but its the only good advise I would follow from her so here it is.

I would find a place that you would like to be at, find out how much rent is and what all is included as far as utilities go, then I would cut a check or transfer the money for that amount each month for a few months and put it into a savings or something (do not give it away to your parents) See how that goes and see how good you feel about your financial situation and if you feel you would have enough for other things like food and entertainment. Also that would also allow you to see how disapline you can be and will give you savings for when you move. (you will have to most likely buy furnature etc.)

I would say not to move unless you have a reason to do so that just isn't thinking that your a looser because your not moving. Take the time now to pay off credit card debt, take a chance on a new job while your not under presure. Do not feel bad about making what you make, I started out at 18 making 5.15 per hour. Yeah I would try to personally be out by 25 but I know someone thats around 30 and still lives at home, and another guy that never left home and ended up taking care of his parents when they got old.

Maybe you should find a love interest, get a better job and save some cash up. Dont do anything rash or it may bite you in the butt. At the moment your secure, if you find a roomate problems could arise, if they leave you then you will be struggling to pay for a flat. Go out looking for a GF/BF depending on your taste, go looking for a better payed job, one which you will enjoy, and save some cash up before you move out, to cover yourself if anything goes wrong.

I suggest you go appartment hunting, If you can find one you can afford or if you and someone else can afford it. I would recommend leaving home, especially if you don't even have your own room....

I would suggest saving up money first before you move out b/c think of it you would have bills to pay and not enough money to spend for yourself

I left when I was 17...Im 22 now and it worked out for me. I rented a place with a friend of mine...we got by okay...

So Id say...save up a little nest egg of about 5 or 10K for emergencies then move out.

Get out of there as quickly as you can. Go for something you can afford with some friends and enjoy. You'll be free for once in your life...you can do whatever you want when you want. I really like my life out of my parent's house. You should do the same.

I would so leave home if I were you and get my own apartment. And yes, you can live quite comfortably on a job that pays $10 an hour. I know people who do on far less. You won't be eating lobsters every night, but you'll have food in your belly, a roof over your head, and most importantly, independence/freedom.

You need at least a $20/h job. My mother has a part time job and she gets paid $23/h and i will soon have a job that pays $10.20/h and i'm 17.

And i dont see why your parents cant help you move out.

I found this thread a little late but my advice would be this:

1. Get a higher paying job

2. Help out with your parents expenses so they may be willing to help you once you move out.

3. Find a cheap place.

4. Your ready. I think :P

Well, I'm not really sure what job to get that will pay higher than that. I have a home business though that I try to work part-time. (Go here and here.)

No, I quit because I was having some bloating and shortness of breath that the doctors can't figure out. Anyways, the medical bills drained my savings so I had to get a job. I was taking computer programming.

1. I give some to my parents every month.

2. They can probably help me out but I don't think they want me to move out. They think I'm dependent on them. (They treat me like a baby.)

3. They would freak out if I get an apartment 'cause they'd like me to get a house so what I'd pay at least goes to the house, and that makes sense but it's still my decision which to get and they're trying to take control.

You can probably see why I want to get out so bad. But it just seems so hard to extract myself out of our house.

No. Freeload from your parents for as long as you can.
