So, I'm 17 and since I was 12 I've had a huge ammount of zits and whiteheads on my chest and back. I've tried over a dozen acne medications and I've finally talked my doctor into giving me some medication that will get rid of it within three months. Unfortunately, my doctor didn't tell me that it basically gets rid of acne by rotting the skin it's on.

For the past week, I've spent about ten minutes every morning peeling dead skin off my face, and by the time I get to school it still looks kind of frightening. I spoke to my doctor about this and he insists that it's normal, but I still have to wonder if this is any better than acne.

Anyways, I'm sorry if that was a little nasty, just looking for some input. Is this really worth it?

It'll probably get better later on. You'll be happy once it starts removing your acne.

That's how the most effective treatments work, they essentially dry up the skin. I remember I had to do that in ninth grade, but ever since then, my face has been pretty clear, with an occasional zit every month or so. So now I don't have to worry about it and I just have to wash my face every night with some regular soap and that's it.

Are you using a moisturizer? Try one made by Cetaphil. Also wash your face with a Cetaphil product.

Accutane is tough business, but for most, it is worth it in the end.
