I have been taking 2 different kinds of pills and on a site called ehealthme it says you can have problems if you take the pills together for a long time. I called the pharmacist and he said they are safe to take together, who should I trust?? Ehealthme doesn't seem like a website that would give out fake info but I'm not sure cause it's not really a popular site or anything.

Trust the pharmacist. If you're really concerned, see your doctor.

Is this actually a question? The pharmacist went to school for years and is up to date on medical research. Trust him, obviously.

Internet and TV are here to replace the human thought process. The random webpage does your thinking for you now.

They're probably both right, the website says you can have problems if you take them together for a long time, that's a bit unspecific, they could mean years and your doctor might only plan on giving them to you for a few months.

OK then maybe not, I'd definitely trust the pharmacist more, these were prescribed by a doctor as well right?

Obviously the random website is the correct choice, because everything on the internet is true.

Depends. I'd google a bit to see if there's more people claiming the same thing as that site. I mean, sometimes things can be true. I'd rather trust GuineaLynx rather than a vet in many cases.

Call up your doctor and ask him/her. If they don't know that you're on both, then you need to tell them. Pharmacists tend to be a mixed bag, there are some who really don't care much, and just want you out of their way so they can go on with their day. I'd trust your doctor more than anyone else....

Agreed. Call your doctor. Since your doctor doesn't know you're on both, I'm assuming you had a prescription from another doctor as well. Call him/her too. You can also contact the drug companies (some doctors aren't very good at this).

While the obvious awnser would normally be the pharmacist, remember that pharmacists are people and therefore not infallible. You have no idea of the amount of different compounds that exist and so not knowing about a specific interaction between 2 compounds would not be unheard of.

So, as a pharmacy student myself, I sugest you seek the opinion of another independent pharmacist or doctor. Preferably a pharmacist.

Just fyi you do not need to go to school for years to become a pharmacist. You can become a pharmacist by just being hired and they train you from there. Alot of people become pharmacists without any prior medical background or education. Pharmacist jobs are the easiest to come by in my city and they all will train you when you are hired. This goes for Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Smiths (Kroger), Albertsons, and Wal-Mart

I would doubt the other doctor would prescribe something that would interfere with the other medication, he probably know about it through the medical history.

You still need to be licensed....Being a pharmacist isn't like getting a job at a gas station, you do need credentials.

Oh man, that's a tough one... a professional pharmacist who had to go to school for years to get his position, or a random website. I'll have to think about this.

You can get your license while you are working for the place. Hence you can have the job before you are certified.

As I have said just because they are a pharmacist does not mean they went to school for years. Most pharmacys do not require you to have gone to school, they will train you on site and you can get your license while you are already working as a pharmacist at the store.

You confuse a pharmacy technician with a pharmacist. A pharm tech needs 1-2 years of vocational training. Pharm techs perform fill and dispense duties. Pharmacists, on the other hand, are required to attend an accredited school of pharmacy and then pass pharm board exams. After that, pharmacists persuing a clinical pharm career must do a two-year residency at an accredited hospital. During the residency, the pharmacist performs rounds and grand rounds with the medical staff and also has a slate of his/her patients. Pharmacists perform consults upon dispensing medication; pharm techs cannot consult. Pharmacists are licensed.

To the TC, when you tell a pharmacist that you are taking two types of medication together, the pharmacist will usually refer to a Drug Interaction Database in order to determine whether it is appropriate to take both medications together.

Truth. A pharmacist has to go to the equivalent of med school and be trained similarly. My brother is a PharmD program and it isn't easy. The people you see at the front of the pharmacy are just techs who are most likely still in pharmacy school. The person in the back doing all the leg work is the actual pharmacist.

You still need to go to a pharmacy school to get a doctorate of pharmacy. There are accelerated programs, but it still requires many years of schooling. The course load is also very challenging.I wouldn't say it's an easy job to come by at all. That was my point. You may be getting a pharmacy technician confused with an actual pharmacist.

Medical history isn't always transfered between offices, and even then, some doctors don't read it.
