celebrity baby names likeAudio Science, andjermajesty. Should they be allowed? It seems extremely selfish to me, its like they've ruined someones life within 2 minutes of its existance. Should their be a point were its just ridiculous and they can't call their kid that? Or does freedom of speech win whatever a kid gets called?

Lets see, children who are going to grow up in privilege. Getting everything their heart desires, but wait! Their names arn't normal. Those poor poor kids. I couldn't care less about celebrity kids, they are going to grow up with fame and fortune and all they have to put up with is an abnormal name? I would gladly be called Pooper McScooper to grow up the life they will.

I certainly wouldn't go as far as to call it abuse but I definately think there should be a limit as to what you can call your child. And as you said it seems selfish that they should call their kid such a ridiculous name, and it will probably cause the child some problems later on in their life.

Yes. I'd also include common names that are intentionally misspelled in a lame effort to introduce uniqueness.

I guess you could make this connection. I read a study once that suggest children with names outside of the commonly accepted ones are more likely to be criminals. BUT, I'm not sure if I buy into it that much.. they may just represent a different culture all together.

Well, in my opinion, any parents who name their baby boy (if they get one) Dick should get kicked in the shins. It's pretty obvious...*cough*
Their kid will get teased at school.
*cough*

Well of course. Is this even a question? Those parents should be locked up and possibly sentenced to death.

It shouldn't be child abuse, it should just be rejected on the spot. No birth certificate should have awkward names.

The problem with this topic is that "strange" has a different meaning to everyone.

This. And the law should also require that if they request a name like that the doctor is legally obligated to slap them in the face.

Possibly, but if its really strange people will always remember it.

Like that NASCAR driver Richard Trickle.. Yeah just think about that for a moment..

Even a 4 year old could figure out what to call him.

A mild form a child abuse, yes. Kids will have enough to worry about in the future the don't need a stupid name to worry about aswell.

Yes. In fact it should be an instant death penalty to anyone that gives their child a name outside of the most common and generic names around.

I do feel bad for a child that gets picked on because of his name. There are thousands of names to choose from so there shouldn't be a reason for a kid to be named something that could make him feel uncomfortable in some situation.

Not really..i don't think it should be considered child abuse...it's the parents right to name their child...and the kids going to live in luxury and have friends and get married no matter what because people migrate towards the wealthy..women will faun over him in hopes of being able to live that life they think is so blissful and carefree..same could be said for rich females...so i don't see what the problem is..

It's society's fault for thinking the names are strange, not the parents fault.

Why would anyone care if someone is named Audio Science?? I don't care. "Yo Audio, what up!" It sounds just fine to me, I don't care if I have to call someone Audio. I'll just leave out the Science part.

It already is in New Zealand. And, really, if it's so out of hand that people are honest-to-God naming their kids "Midnight Chardonnay" and "Number 16 Bus Shelter" (probably where he was conceived) then something needs to be done.

I think there are some limitations on what you can name your kid that vary from place to place. I think there should be some consideration put into making sure stupid names aren't passed. pretty sure you can't legally name your kid the F word, or S word, or C word, so if they can recognize that as a no-go, other things should be considered as well.

Do you think we should force immigrants to adopt a common name? Sure it's not the same thing, but it remains that many children are being picked on at school because they have names from another language.

I definitely would not call it abuse...unless the parent(s) named the child a horrible name on purpose for the lulz. That could possibly be considered abuse. If the parent(s) just happened to like a quirky/weird/horribly spelled name, I would not call that abuse...just bad taste.

It's not child abuse, but giving a kid a really strange name isn't doing them a favor. Why don't you just name your kid 'Kick My Butt'.

Audio Science? lol This is just as bad as that celebrity that named his kid Pilot Inspector.

Just imagine his first day at school.

Teacher: "Name?"

Kid: "Pilot Inspector."

Teacher: "I asked your name not what you want to be when you grow up."

I don't think any limitations should be made, but I doubt anyone would be fine with being named Richard Head (Someone my parents knew). My half brother's last name is Winterbottom, and man he got it in highschool.

"Hey, what's up arctic ass?'

"Yo! Frigid fanny!"

"How's it going, summertop?"

What a nightmare.

I think parents should exercise better judgement when they name their kid, instead of naming the child something weird like "Cheeseburger," if they love their kid and care about how they will grow, a name not meant to be some joke would be a better choice. I don't know if there should be a law against it, because how would one even enforce that, I would just hope parents had better judgement than that.

I guess you could make this connection. I read a study once that suggest children with names outside of the commonly accepted ones are more likely to be criminals. BUT, I'm not sure if I buy into it that much.. they may just represent a different culture all together.EMOEVOLUTION

Depends on how far we want to take this. There have been studies shown that kids with "black names" are far less likely to get jobs and more likely to end up in prison. So if weird names are "child abuse" and need to be stopped, at which point do we reach the equivalent of saying "no, your name is TOBY!"

Make no mistake, there's no question that many parents are doing their kids a disservice by giving them "weird" names. But this is a real touchy issue that needs to be handled very lightly. When we say that certain names are not allowed (and not all names are allowed, AFAIK), that's treading awfully close to forcibly eradicating people's cultural heritage.
